Job Description

About the Authority The Arapahoe County 911 Authority has served as the cornerstone of emergency communications in our region since 1988. As a non-profit public entity operating under Colorado state statutes, we provide the technology, funding, and coordination that support six Emergency Communications Centers serving more than 320,000 residents across 717 square miles - collectively handling over 239,000 emergency calls and 440,000 total calls each year. We are building out our dedicated Authority staff to meet the growing complexity of public safety communications. This is an opportunity to join a small, mission-driven team supporting the essential work of keeping 9-1-1 services reliable for the communities we serve. About the Role The 911 Network Administrator is a hands-on, mission-critical position responsible for administering, securing, and maintaining the Authority's Cisco-based network infrastructure, security systems, and telephony connectivity supporting emergency communications across all six Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs). This position administers all Authority-owned Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and related network equipment; manages SIP-based 9-1-1 call delivery to the Authority's Intrado Viper call handling environment; manages backup call routing (BCR) and Emergency Services IP Network (ESInet) connectivity in coordination with Lumen, the Authority's NG9-1-1 Core Services provider; and administers Cisco Secure Firewall (Firepower) with Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC) and Cisco Duo for multi-factor authentication. The Network Administrator works in close coordination with the 911 System Administrator, including a shared 24x7 on-call rotation, and serves as a primary technical liaison between the Authority and the IT departments and technology providers supporting each ECC. This is a role for a public-safety-minded network professional who thrives in a mission-critical environment and wants to contribute to the reliability of 9-1-1 services. What You'll Do Administer all Authority-owned Cisco network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPN concentrators, session border controllers, and related infrastructure. Administer SIP-based 9-1-1 call delivery infrastructure, backup call routing (BCR), and ESInet connectivity in coordination with Lumen and the Authority's Intrado Viper call handling environment. Administer Cisco Secure Firewall (Firepower) through Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC), including policy configuration, rule sets, intrusion prevention, and software updates. Administer Cisco Duo for multi-factor authentication and secure access, including policy management, application integrations, device trust, and user enrollment. Serve as the primary technical liaison for network and telephony matters with each of the six Emergency Communications Centers; coordinate with on-site Authority staff and ECC personnel for routine support, and conduct on-site assessments during quarterly Colorado trips. Participate in a shared 24x7 on-call rotation with the 911 System Administrator for response to critical system incidents, and provide cross-coverage on Intrado Viper administration as needed. Coordinate with Lumen, carriers, Intrado, Cisco, and other vendors on network and telephony issues; coordinate enrollment and documentation of critical lines in the federal Telecommunications Service Priority (TSP) Program. Support network operations at the Authority's Backup Communications Center (BCC), including equipment readiness, connectivity validation, and periodic activation exercises. Maintain current technical documentation, including network topology diagrams, configuration baselines, IP address management, firewall rule sets, and standard operating procedures. What We're Looking For Required Associate's degree in information technology, network engineering, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
