Analyzes and interprets schematics and wiring diagrams.
Assists in designing and reviewing traffic signal, traffic data collection or illumination projects; makesrecommendations.
Drives/operates a bucket truck to install and repair electronic traffic control devices at various heights.
Installs, troubleshoots and maintains hardware and software related to traffic systems, Intelligent TransportationSystems, land mobile radio communication systems or the Statewide Traffic Analysis and Reporting System.
Measures intersections and evaluates traffic patterns and timing sequences; computes mathematical factors for adjustingtiming of traffic signals and/or systems.
Operates and maintains complex electronic test equipment to repair and test electronic traffic systems.
Performs complex electronic repairs and rewires systems; adjusts and reprograms equipment/systems and replacescontrollers and other electronic devices.
Provides technical expertise and training of field technicians in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance andrepair of complex electronic/electrical systems in the field.
Responds to complaints and identifies problems regarding traffic signal timing, congestion, operations and assists indeveloping recommendations for long-term solutions.
Responds to emergency situations to assist with repair and maintenance of traffic signals, systems, lighting or trafficdata collection equipment.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. The essential duties for Traffic Systems Specialist II include those listed above and:
Inventories supplies and equipment in shop.
Follows applicable safety procedures when working in an area where other utilities such as high voltage lines, gas lines,water and sewage lines and heavy traffic are located.
Maintains stock and equipment to ensure necessary tools, equipment, products and materials are available for scheduledprojects.
Monitors work sites under varying conditions of light and weather and ensures that traffic control measures are operatingeffectively.
Reviews construction plans to ensure that plans do not conflict with existing utilities; advises supervisor of conflictsand recommends a course of action. The essential duties for Traffic Systems Specialist III include those listed above and:
Develops specifications and justification for equipment procurement.
Evaluates site distance, edge conditions, slope, pavement serviceability and geometrics for suitability of a new installation site.
Consults with Department personnel, manufacturers and/or vendors regarding equipment operation, design, installation,equipment failure, complex repairs or replacement recommendations.
Inspects construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, maintain andrepair traffic control/data collection related equipment or facilities in accordance with plans, specifications and contractrequirements.
