Job Description

SC SIGNAL, INC.
Junior Network Operations Center (NOC)
Technician Department:
Network Operations Center Reports To:
NOC Manager Employment Type:
Full-Time Location:
Onsite —
Coatesville, Pennsylvania Work Schedule:
Rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Position Summary SC Signal, Inc. is hiring a Junior NOC Technician for our Coatesville, Pennsylvania operations center. You will watch the alert queue, take the first response, document what happened, and escalate what you cannot resolve. Our NOC covers a wide stack — Fortinet and Palo Alto firewalls, routing and switching, wireless, Linux and Windows servers, virtualization and storage, AWS and Azure workloads, telecommunications circuits, and managed customer services. You will encounter all of it on the console. Nobody starts knowing all of it, and we do not expect you to. Zabbix is our primary monitoring platform.
You will live in it:
acknowledging alerts, reading graphs and triggers, checking host availability, and telling signal from noise. Prior Zabbix experience helps but is not required. This is a junior position. You are not expected to arrive knowing Fortinet, Palo Alto, Linux, or AWS — those are simply systems you will see on the monitoring console, and we will teach you what each alert means and what to do about it. What we ask you to bring is attention to detail, steadiness, and the willingness to follow a procedure and write down what you did. One duty does start on day one: record accuracy. Our IPAM and DCIM systems are the source of truth for addressing, DNS and DHCP, rack and port assignments, circuits, and device lifecycle. You will be trained on both, then trusted to keep entries correct. Those records are audit evidence, not a side project. SC Signal operates under SOC 2 and CMMC Level 2 requirements. In practice that means every shift follows documented procedures, logs its work, and handles customer information under controls we are audited against. You do not need compliance experience. You do need the discipline to follow a procedure and write down what you did. The role suits someone building a career in networking, telecommunications, managed services, cybersecurity, or IT infrastructure. You will work alongside network engineers, field technicians, customer service staff, carriers, and vendor support teams. Key ResponsibilitiesMonitoring and First Response Monitor network devices, telecommunications circuits, servers, wireless systems, and managed services in Zabbix and supporting dashboards. Triage alarms, service interruptions, performance alerts, and customer-reported issues by impact and priority. Troubleshoot connectivity, latency, packet loss, routing, switching, wireless, DNS, DHCP, and Internet access problems to the limits of your access and training. Verify the operational status of routers, switches, firewalls, access points, customer-premises equipment, and WAN circuits. Our firewall estate is Fortinet and Palo Alto; you will learn to read their status and alerts, not administer them. Check the health of Linux and Windows servers, virtualization hosts, and AWS and Azure resources against documented checks — service state, disk, memory, certificate expiry, backup jobs, and provider health notices. Run remote diagnostics from documented procedures: ping, traceroute, interface and error counters, log review, and service checks. Watch bandwidth utilization, device availability, environmental sensors, and performance trends. Report drift before it becomes an outage. Acknowledge and annotate Zabbix events accurately, and flag noisy triggers, stale hosts, and monitoring gaps to senior staff. Tickets, Escalation, and Communication Create, categorize, prioritize, update, and close incidents and service requests in the ticketing system. Follow NOC procedures, troubleshooting guides, escalation matrices, and incident-response playbooks. Escalate unresolved, recurring, or high-impact incidents to senior technicians, network engineers, field service, carriers, or vendors through the documented escalation path. Update internal teams, customers, and stakeholders on status, troubleshooting progress, and restoration. Coordinate with field technicians during installations, maintenance, equipment replacement, and service restoration. Confirm restoration and complete the required documentation before closing an incident. Maintain shift notes, event timelines, device records, and knowledge-base articles. Hand off cleanly at shift change. Refer recurring incidents to engineering or problem management rather than closing the same ticket twice. DDI and Infrastructure Records Learn our IPAM system and keep DDI records current — DNS entries, DHCP scopes and reservations, and IP address allocations — as changes are made. Recognize and report common addressing and name-resolution symptoms: failed lookups, exhausted DHCP scopes, duplicate addresses, and stale DNS entries. Training provided.
Keep DCIM records current:
rack and elevation, port and patch assignments, circuit IDs, serial numbers, warranty and lifecycle status, and decommissioned equipment. Compare discovered inventory against IPAM and DCIM records, and correct or report drift between what is documented and what is deployed. Attach accurate device, address, and circuit references to tickets so incidents can be traced to specific assets. Support address planning, subnet allocation, and record cleanup under the direction of network engineering. Process, Security, and Growth Follow SC Signal access-control, change-management, and data-handling requirements. Make no unauthorized change to a production system. Report suspected security events immediately through the incident-response process. Support approved network changes and scheduled maintenance under the supervision of senior technical staff. Complete assigned security-awareness and technical training on schedule. Keep a professional, customer-focused manner during routine requests and major incidents alike. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Working knowledge of TCP/IP and the OSI model. Familiarity with IPv4 addressing, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless networking. Ability to run basic checks with ping, traceroute, and web-based management interfaces, or the aptitude to learn them quickly. General computer literacy in Windows, and willingness to learn to work in Linux and at a command line. No prior Linux experience required. Willingness to maintain records with precision: an IP allocation, port assignment, or circuit ID entered wrong is a defect. Clear written and verbal communication, and accurate, consistent technical documentation. Attention to detail and the willingness to follow a documented procedure exactly. Composure during outages and high-priority incidents. Judgment to work independently and to recognize when to escalate. Ability to work as part of a shift-based technical operations team. U.S. Person status as defined under ITAR and EAR, and eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance. Ability to pass a background check and to follow SC Signal information-handling agreements. Availability to work onsite in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, on rotating shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree, technical diploma, or coursework in information technology, networking, telecommunications, cybersecurity, or a related field. Prior work at a help desk, service desk, Internet service provider, telecommunications provider, managed services company, or NOC. Hands-on time with Zabbix — hosts, templates, triggers, actions, maps, or agent deployment. Grafana, Prometheus, LibreNMS, PRTG, SolarWinds, or Nagios experience also counts. Familiarity with ticketing and IT service-management platforms. Any exposure to Fortinet or Palo Alto Networks firewalls. These are our platforms, so familiarity shortens your ramp — but we train for this and expect no administration skill on arrival. Any exposure to Cisco, Juniper, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Meraki, OpenWrt, VyOS, or comparable networking platforms. Any Linux exposure at all — a home lab, a class, a Raspberry Pi, or a summer of ticket work. Comfort at a command line counts. Any exposure to AWS or Azure, including personal or coursework accounts. Exposure to DDI, IPAM, or DCIM tooling such as NetBox, Infoblox, BlueCat, EfficientIP, phpIPAM, Device42, or Nautobot. Understanding of VPNs, firewalls, NAT, PPPoE, RADIUS, captive portals, and Internet circuits. Familiarity with SNMP, syslog, NetFlow or sFlow, and network performance metrics. Exposure to virtualization, backup systems, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365 administration. Experience supporting remote sites, campus networks, enterprise networks, or multi-tenant environments. Any exposure to a regulated environment —
SOC 2, CMMC, NIST SP
800-171, FedRAMP, HIPAA, or PCI DSS. Knowledge of ITIL incident, problem, request, and change management. Preferred Certifications Helpful, but none are required. We support certification study and testing for technicians on the team. CompTIA Network+ CompTIA A+ CompTIA Security+ CompTIA Linux+ or LPIC-1 Cisco Certified Support Technician — Networking Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Fortinet Certified Associate or Fortinet Certified Professional — Network Security Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA) AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) Juniper Networks Certified Associate — Junos MikroTik Certified Network Associate (MTCNA) ITIL 4 Foundation What You Will Learn Here We built this role to develop technicians, not to fill a chair. In your first year you can expect structured exposure to: Zabbix monitoring — reading triggers and graphs, acknowledging events, and understanding how alerts are built. Enterprise firewalls in production, on Fortinet and Palo Alto platforms. Linux fundamentals and command-line diagnostics, taught on the job. AWS and Azure basics as they appear in customer and internal workloads. DDI practice — how addressing, DNS, and DHCP are planned, allocated, and documented. Incident handling inside a SOC 2 and CMMC Level 2 environment, which is a credential in itself. Paid study time and exam reimbursement toward Network+, Security+, CCNA, and vendor certifications. Core Competencies Network monitoring and first-level troubleshooting Incident identification, documentation, and escalation Customer service and professional communication Technical curiosity across a broad technology stack Accurate ticket, IPAM, DCIM, and shift-handover documentation Time, task, and priority management Teamwork and cross-departmental coordination Security awareness and careful handling of customer information Reliability, accountability, and professionalism Ability to follow documented procedures and work effectively under pressure Performance Expectations In this role you are expected to: Acknowledge alerts and assigned tickets within established service-level targets. Complete documented first-level troubleshooting before escalating. Escalate promptly and through the correct technical or management channel. Give accurate, timely updates during active incidents. Keep ticket notes, event timelines, and shift-handover records complete enough that the next shift needs no verbal briefing. Follow approved procedures and make no unauthorized network or system change. Update IPAM and DCIM records in the same shift the change is made, so documentation never trails reality. Protect customer, company, and system information. Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality for assigned shifts. Show steady growth in networking knowledge, operational awareness, and troubleshooting ability. Add to the reliability and professionalism of the SC Signal Network Operations Center. Compensation and Benefits Base pay range: $46,000 - $54,000 per year ($22.12 - $25.96 per hour), depending on experience and certifications. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Paid time off and company holidays. Retirement plan with company contribution. Final compensation depends on qualifications, certifications, and shift assignment.
