Simmonds Precision is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Motion Controls business engineering team. The Software Engineer will leverage their expertise in embedded real-time systems to design, develop, and verify software for aerospace and defense electromechanical applications. This role is responsible for the design, development, integration, verification, and lifecycle support of embedded real-time software used in aerospace products and systems. This position works across the full software development lifecycle, translating system and customer requirements into reliable, maintainable, and compliant software solutions. The Software Engineer partners closely with Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Project Engineering, Program Management, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support the development, qualification, production, and continued support of complex aerospace products. The successful candidate will combine strong embedded software fundamentals with a disciplined engineering approach, technical curiosity, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary product development environment. Key Responsibilities Software Development & Technical Execution Design, develop, test, integrate, verify, document, and maintain embedded real-time application software throughout the full product lifecycle. Translate system, software, and customer requirements into reliable, maintainable, and testable software solutions. Support hardware/software integration and system-level testing, including interfaces with electrical hardware, sensors, actuators, motors, and other system components. Perform software debugging, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective action to resolve technical issues identified during development, integration, verification, production, or field support. Develop and execute software verification activities to demonstrate compliance with defined software and system requirements. Analyze test results and software anomalies, identify root causes, and implement appropriate corrective actions. Develop and maintain required software engineering documentation, including requirements, design descriptions, interfaces, verification documentation, and technical analyses. Participate in software and system design reviews, peer reviews, code reviews, configuration management, change control, and software release activities. Read and interpret electrical schematics, interface documentation, and technical specifications as needed to support embedded software development and troubleshooting. Cross-Functional & Program Support Collaborate with Project, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, and other Software Engineers, as well as Program Management, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain, to develop integrated solutions and execution plans that satisfy customer requirements. Participate in multidisciplinary technical discussions to identify and address software dependencies, technical risks, integration challenges, and potential solutions. Communicate software status, technical risks, issues, dependencies, and recommendations clearly to engineering and program stakeholders. Support Production and Quality teams in investigating and resolving software-related manufacturing and product issues. Develop software engineering estimates, technical inputs, and support information for customer proposals, bids, and program planning activities. Support project planning by identifying software development and verification tasks, dependencies, technical risks, resource requirements, and schedule considerations. Execute assigned activities in alignment with established program cost, schedule, quality, and technical objectives. Technical Excellence and Continuous Improvement Experience designing, developing, testing, integrating, and maintaining embedded real-time application software. Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including software design, development, integration, verification, testing, and maintenance. Ability to translate technical and customer requirements into effective embedded software solutions. Experience supporting software integration and verification within complex engineered products or systems. Ability to analyze technical requirements, identify software development needs, and contribute to engineering estimates and proposal activities. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues and apply structured problem-solving and analytical skills throughout software development and integration. Ability to work within defined software engineering processes, standards, and development practices. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, and Project Engineering, to support integrated product development. Ability to develop and maintain sufficient technical knowledge of embedded applications to contribute effectively to software development, testing, and verification activities. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience; or an advanced degree in a related field. Experience with embedded software development, real-time applications, software integration, verification, or a closely related technical discipline. Working knowledge of software development lifecycle principles, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, verification, and configuration management. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex technical issues. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams. Ability to manage assigned technical priorities and deliver work in accordance with established program schedules and engineering requirements. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience with aerospace or other safety-critical product development, including the design and integration of electrical, electronic, or electromechanical systems. Experience developing embedded real-time software for microcontrollers, processors, or similar embedded computing platforms. Experience designing, implementing, integrating, and debugging sensor interfaces, including analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion. Experience developing embedded software for motor-control applications, including brushless DC (BLDC) motors and resolver interfaces. Experience with model-based software development using MATLAB/Simulink or comparable tools. Experience with requirements development, traceability, and management using tools such as IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, interface control documents, and other engineering drawings or technical documentation. Experience working within a

compliant software development and verification environment. Knowledge of requirements-based testing, software verification, traceability, configuration management, and problem-reporting processes. Experience troubleshooting software/hardware interactions using laboratory equipment, debugging tools, or test environments. Familiarity with source control, issue tracking, code review, and continuous integration practices. Experience participating in formal engineering reviews and working within structured product development processes.
