Overview We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Tooling/Automation Manager to lead the development, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing automation systems and tooling solutions. This role is pivotal in driving continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing production efficiency, and ensuring the seamless integration of advanced automation technologies within our manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial engineering, robotics, CAD software, and process engineering, with a passion for elevating manufacturing processes through innovative tooling and automation strategies. Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and deployment of automated tooling systems and robotic solutions to streamline manufacturing operations. Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to identify automation opportunities and implement process improvements. Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot complex automation issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance. Utilize CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, and Schematics to create detailed designs for tooling fixtures, robotic cells, and industrial equipment. Program and commission programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robots, vision inspection systems, and other industrial automation equipment. Apply Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize processes, reduce waste, and improve product quality. Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and project management activities to meet deadlines and budget constraints for automation projects. Lead efforts in process engineering related to plastics injection molding, welding, fabrication, assembly lines, and tooling fabrication. Ensure compliance with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards and maintain accurate engineering data analysis records. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on factory automation, quality enhancement programs in engineering, and overall manufacturing excellence. Qualifications Proven experience practicing in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role with a focus on automation or tooling management. Strong knowledge of project scheduling, project management principles in manufacturing environments, and factory experience. Expertise in CAD software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo; experience creating schematics for industrial equipment is essential. Hands-on experience programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics (including robot programming), vision inspection systems, and industrial automation equipment. Skilled in process improvement methodologies such as Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma manufacturing practices. Familiarity with plastics injection molding processes, welding techniques, fabrication methods, assembly line operations, and industrial equipment maintenance. Ability to perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex engineering issues related to tooling or automation systems. Strong team leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments. Knowledge of GD&T standards for precise engineering drawings; experience with industrial or factory floor troubleshooting is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
