Job Description

Senior Test Engineer Prolec-GE Waukesha, Inc United States, Wisconsin, Waukesha 400 South Prairie Avenue (Show on map) Sep 08, 2026 JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for defining and implementing effective testing processes for transformers to meet national and international standards and customer specification. The process requires the correct interpretation and application of customer requirements, industry standards, and design to ensure testing performed meets the level of performance and reliability requirement. Senior Test Engineer position requires high levels of skills and expertise with Electrical Power, High Voltage Engineering techniques and/or Automated Test Systems, providing technical expertise to customers both within and outside of the organization.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Define and implement effective testing processes for transformers to meet customer specifications and industry standards.

Review testing requirements and identify/resolve gaps based on Customer specification, Industry standards and testing capabilities. Take ownership of Test Review process, work with engineering, Project Management to resolve and drive improvement activities.

Train Test technicians, mentor Test engineers, Present/Train Internal and external customers on Transformer testing.

Identify risk & opportunities to Test operations based on technology/standard changes and competitive industry landscape.

Manage and executive Capex for assigned project and support other Capex projects as technical resource.

Lead continuous improvement projects towards test process automation/simplification and improving efficiency, accuracy, robustness, and safety.

Drive actions toward reducing non-conformance generated during testing.

Be the technical resource for the organization to identify/evaluate/perform diagnostic tests like RSO, PD Triangulation.

Reviews and analyses test results using statistical tools and recommends changes to engineering and manufacturing.

Use technical skills and analytical tools to troubleshoot test failures & defects and make improvement suggestions.

Develop electrical calculations involved with transformer testing for new or nonstandard designs.

Develop test setup including detailed instrumentation/circuitry to accomplish the testing requirement.

Review and develop equipment preventive maintenance plan for proper test equipment functioning.

Guide test maintenance in troubleshooting Test equipment based on process knowledge and engineering skills.

Interface with various functions within the organization to understand and develop innovative solutions to meet customer testing needs, optimize testing Process, Resolve product nonconformance.

Write/certify/Approve test reports. Resolve technical problems during and post testing with customer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Advance knowledge of electricity and transformer

Calculate test voltages, currents based on Nameplate, corrections per IEEE standards.

Evaluates and implements training and development needs for testing team & customers.

Provide feedback on customer specification, IEEE standards.

Advance knowledge of Test Systems

Specify/order Test systems based on current/proposed industry standards.

Operate Test systems to perform troubleshooting/testing as required.

Guide maintenance team with troubleshooting system issues.

Expertise with Testing Tools/Software

  • RSO, PD Triangulation, LabVIEW, PLC, Control System, Instrumentation
    Strong project management skills
  • Demonstrate high level of planning & Risk Management/Mitigation
    Self-starter and Initiative-taking
  • Identify areas to improve and drive to get closure without follow-ups.

Analytical capacity for creative problem-solving; Arrive at solution from ambiguity/grey area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

5+ Years experience with Transformer Design or Testing/Power or utility /Automation Preferred Education / Experience Master's degree in electrical/Power/High Voltage/Automation/Business Administration

Professional Engineer

Experience with industrial controls or Test System automation or Instrumentation.

Experience with Visual Studio, Visual Basic, C++ or Python

Experience with LabVIEW , PCI, NI/Siemens PLCs

Key Working Relationships Functional Leaders:

Engineering, Operations, Human Resources, Sales Operations, Sourcing Physical Demands Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Occasionally work at heights (Transformer cover, lifts etc.) with fall protections Working Conditions Shop-floor and office environment, located on large manufacturing campus.
