$29.40-$35.60/hour About Our Client Our client is a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative providing electricity to member-owner distribution cooperatives throughout Minnesota. The organization supports reliable electric service across the state through its generation and transmission operations and offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside professionals in the electric utility industry. Job Summary We are seeking a Systems Operations Intern to provide technical support to engineers within the System Operations department. This internship offers hands-on experience with power system modeling, Energy Management System (EMS) applications, outage management, and operational data while working alongside experienced utility professionals. The intern will assist with developing and validating power system models, maintaining transmission model data, supporting communications and metering configurations, and completing technical analysis and documentation that supports safe and reliable electric system operations. Key Responsibilities Assist in the development of power system models. Use power system modeling software, including PSS/E, to represent transmission and distribution equipment, loads, contingencies, and related system elements. Assist with maintaining network transmission models and databases used for Energy Management System (EMS) applications. Verify power system models by reviewing simulation results using PSS/E power flow software. Assist with verification of configurations for Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), communication processors, data concentrators, and meters. Assist with populating and validating the Outage Management System (OMS). Assist engineers, technicians, analysts, and management with data collection, analysis, drafting, and documentation in support of System Operations functions. Qualifications Currently enrolled in an engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university. Knowledge of or experience with electrical equipment, integrated system design, operating characteristics, analytical techniques, power system modeling techniques, and simulation programs preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and Access. Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Ability to remain productive and business-focused. You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas. Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in an office environment at the Maple Grove headquarters. Extended periods of computer work may be required. Eligibility for hybrid work may be available following successful integration into the role and at management's discretion. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Internship Schedule Full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer. Monday-Friday schedule. Full-time hours during academic breaks may be available. Part-time hours of 10+ hours per week during the academic year. Continuation in the internship program is based on performance and business needs.
