Job Description

What You Will Do We are seeking motivated, hard-working student interns to join the Project Controls Group for both summer and full year programs. The Project Controls Group reports to the Program Performance Services Division. The Project Controls Group (PPS-PC) has over 300 employees deployed across the Laboratory performing project controls functions for weapons programs, science programs and capital projects. In this entry-level Intern position is a Project Controls Division position that learns and implements LANL project controls system, processes, procedures and tools on a project or program. The Intern will be trained and mentored to provide project controls support and performs 1) planning and scheduling activities including schedule development, maintenance, and monitoring activities, as directed; 2) cost engineering including cost estimating, analysis, and cost control activities, as directed; and 3) support earned value management. An Intern can support maintaining metrics and indicators, and reporting variance analysis for a variety of projects large and small across the Laboratory. This position will be filled at the "student intern" level within the Project Controls Group.

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:

Degrees or have a knowledge of engineering, procurement, contsruction, maintenance, or project/program management customarily acquired over time through education, or practical experience. Enrollment in engineering, procurement, construction, or project/program management. Inquisitive, self-started with an interest in development and innovating around collaboration. Experience working with Microsoft Office, Excel and/or Visio. Familiar with database management systems. Experience interacting with all levels of personnel in a professional environment. Experience Interacting with customer in a customer service/schedule driven work environment. Ability to work independently, organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks while meeting strict deadlines. Ability to work on multiple projects with frequent interruptions, varying priorities and deadlines while maintaining excellent quality in daily work.

Communication:

Strong communication skills including interpersonal, verbal and written, demonstrating the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.

Education/Experience:

Current full-time enrollment in coursework at a college level and maintains a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Desired Qualifications:

Basic understanding of budget analysis and cost control activities. Basic knowledge of construction development or business management practices. Experience handling sensitive information, such as medical or bank records. Experience giving presentations to a variety of audiences. Knowledge and experience working with standard business systems, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

No Clearance:

Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test:

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
