About the role We're building an AI-driven observability and root-cause-analysis platform for large datacenter networks. The platform ingests topology, metrics, and log data from a range of network management and monitoring systems, then reasons over that data to explain why a network broke and what it will take down next. We need a designer to create the platform's web UI from the ground up. This is an operator console, not a marketing site. Your users are network administrators sitting in front of large monitors during an outage, and the measure of your work is how fast they understand what's happening and take the right action. You'll work directly with a small team of four senior engineers. There is no existing design system and no product manager — you'll define the first and help shape the second. What you'll design Network topology views: hundreds of devices, links, and logical groupings, without turning into a hairball Alarm and incident surfaces: severity encoding, rollup and suppression, "what changed since I last looked" Impact analysis: what a single failure reaches downstream, and which tenants and services it touches Time-series and telemetry views: interface errors, drops, queue congestion, throughput trends Root-cause narratives produced by AI agents: showing evidence, provenance, and confidence so an operator can audit the reasoning Human-in-the-loop approval flows for recommended remediation, where a wrong click has real consequences A dark-mode-first component library and token set our engineers can implement directly How you'll work Run usability sessions with practicing network operators to validate concepts before we build them. We'll help you find participants. Work inside our two-week sprint cadence alongside the engineering team — design in the same rhythm as the build, not months ahead of it Translate engineering intent and operator needs into clear design specs. We have no PM, so you'll do some of that shaping yourself. Hand off tokens and components in Figma, Claude Design or simular tools, plus enough React and CSS that engineers aren't guessing at your intent What we're looking for [ Required] A portfolio with genuinely data-dense work — dashboards, NOC or ops consoles, admin tooling, trading or monitoring interfaces. Not landing pages. Demonstrated skill at information hierarchy under pressure: making 300 rows and a dozen live metrics scannable in seconds Experience with graph or network visualization at scale (Cytoscape.js, D3, G6, Sigma, or equivalent), including layout, grouping, and progressive disclosure Fluency with time-series charting choices — when a heatmap beats overlaid lines, how to show gaps versus zeros, how to align charts to an incident window Figma proficiency plus working knowledge of React and modern

fluency, including colorblind-safe severity palettes and status color that doesn't rely on hue alone Comfort designing for expert users who want density and keyboard shortcuts and dislike hand-holding Nice to have Background in observability, monitoring, or network management tooling — whether at a vendor, an internal platform team, or industrial/SCADA HMI work Familiarity with datacenter networking concepts: leaf-spine fabrics, link aggregation, multi-tenancy, network virtualization Experience designing UI for AI or agentic systems, especially around explainability, confidence, and approval boundaries Experience establishing a design system inside a small engineering team This position does not provide sponsorship.
