6+ years in backend development, including 3+ years of hands-on GraphQL experience Role Overview We are looking for a highly skilled BFF / GraphQL Developer with strong hands-on experience in building scalable, enterprise-grade GraphQL APIs using TypeScript, Node.js, and Apollo GraphQL . The ideal candidate should have deep technical expertise in Apollo Federation, Subgraph development, Supergraph composition, and GraphQL schema design , along with experience building Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) services that aggregate data from multiple backend systems. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable GraphQL APIs and BFF services using TypeScript and Node.js. Build and manage Apollo Federation Subgraphs , including schema definitions, resolvers, entity relationships, and cross-subgraph references. Implement and maintain Apollo Supergraph architecture , enabling multiple independently developed GraphQL services to operate through a unified graph. Develop federated GraphQL services using Apollo Server, Apollo Federation 2, and Apollo Router/Gateway . Design reusable GraphQL schemas, queries, mutations, and resolvers following enterprise API standards. Integrate GraphQL BFF services with downstream REST APIs, microservices, and other enterprise backend systems. Optimize GraphQL query performance through efficient data fetching, batching, caching, and N+1 query prevention. Implement GraphQL security best practices, including authentication, authorization, JWT/OAuth 2.0 integration, and query complexity controls. Support schema evolution, federation directives, schema validation, and compatibility management across subgraphs. Develop unit, integration, and automated API tests for GraphQL services. Collaborate with frontend, backend, architecture, and DevOps teams to deliver reliable and high-performing API solutions. Required Technical Skills GraphQL & Apollo Federation Strong hands-on experience with GraphQL schema design, queries, mutations, resolvers, and custom scalars. Practical experience implementing Apollo Federation 2 , including federated entities, entity resolution, and federation directives such as @key, @shareable, @external, @requires, and @override. Proven experience developing and integrating Subgraphs into a unified Supergraph . Experience with Apollo Router or Apollo Gateway, schema composition, and query execution across federated services. Familiarity with Apollo GraphOS, Rover CLI, schema registry, and schema checks. TypeScript & Node.js Advanced TypeScript development experience, including strong typing, asynchronous programming, and error handling. Strong Node.js experience developing production-grade APIs and backend services. Experience with Apollo Server and Node.js frameworks such as Express, Fastify, or NestJS. Understanding of BFF architectural patterns and microservices integration. Performance, Security & DevOps Strong knowledge of GraphQL performance optimization, including DataLoader, batching, caching, and query optimization. Experience implementing OAuth 2.0/JWT-based API security and fine-grained authorization. Experience with Jest or equivalent testing frameworks. Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based deployments. Experience with logging, tracing, monitoring, and production troubleshooting. Preferred Qualifications Experience delivering enterprise-scale Apollo Federation implementations involving multiple domain-oriented subgraphs. Experience with GraphQL schema governance, contract testing, and automated federation checks in CI/CD. Familiarity with event-driven architecture, Redis caching, API gateways, and distributed systems. Experience working in Agile delivery teams and collaborating across multiple engineering squads. Ideal Candidate We are specifically looking for a hands-on GraphQL engineer , not simply a Node.js developer with basic GraphQL exposure. The candidate should be capable of independently designing a federated GraphQL subgraph, integrating it into an existing Apollo Supergraph, troubleshooting schema composition issues, and optimizing performance across multiple downstream services.
Pay:
