Backend Module Engineer Location:
Hutto, TX (Fully On-Site) Role Summary The Backend Module Engineer owns the assembly, packaging, and test processes for optical transceiver modules, focusing on process development, yield improvement, and troubleshooting to ensure modules meet quality and reliability standards. Key Responsibilities
  • Own and continuously improve backend assembly processes for optical transceiver modules, including sub-assembly (TOSA/ROSA), module packaging, and final integration
  • Develop, validate, and document manufacturing process specifications, work instructions, and test procedures for backend operations
  • Drive yield improvement initiatives through root cause analysis, DOE (design of experiments), and statistical process control (SPC)
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process-related issues on the production floor, partnering with maintenance and equipment engineering teams to minimize downtime
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) by collaborating with R D and product engineering to transfer new module designs into backend production
  • Monitor key process metrics (yield, first-pass rate, cycle time, scrap) and drive corrective/preventive actions
  • Collaborate with quality engineering to support failure analysis, corrective action reports (CAR/8D), and customer quality escalations
  • Support equipment qualification, process capability studies, and validation for new or upgraded backend tooling
  • Ensure compliance with safety, ESD, and cleanroom protocols relevant to optical module handling and assembly
  • Train and support production technicians and operators on process standards and best practices
  • Contribute to capacity planning and process scale-up as the facility ramps production volume Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in backend module/process engineering within optical transceiver, optoelectronics, semiconductor, or related electronics manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with optical sub-assembly processes (e.g., TOSA/ROSA assembly, fiber alignment, laser welding, epoxy dispensing, wire bonding)
  • Familiarity with module-level testing (optical/electrical parametric testing, BER testing, reliability testing)
  • Strong understanding of process control methodologies (SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing)
  • Experience working in cleanroom or ESD-controlled environments
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, process flow diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a data-driven approach to problem solving
  • Effective cross-functional collaborator, comfortable working with R D, quality, and production teams Preferred Qualifications Experience with
SFP/QSFP/QSFP-DD
transceiver form factors Lean Six Sigma certification Experience supporting new facility start-up or line ramp-up
