A. PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under supervision of the Chief Business Official and guidance of the Transportation Coordinator safely operate a school bus over designated routes transporting students; and to do related work as required.

B. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Drives a school bus daily in accordance with California Highway Patrol Passenger Transportation Safety Handbook (HPH 82.7), over designated routes. Delivers students to and from school.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspection of bus as required by

HPH 82.7.

• Maintain a clean bus.
• Report mechanical defects and safety concerns to Transportation Coordinator.
• Manage student behavior and maintain a safe and orderly environment while transporting students.
• Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, staff and community members.
• Transport students and teachers on field trips to various locations.
• Fuel bus as needed. Maintain fuel and mileage logs.
• Participate in awareness training related to student health issues such as epi pen administration, allergies or diabetes.
• Perform all tasks in a safe manner. Adhere to Hazardous Substance requirements including Material Safety Data Sheets, Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens and Integrated Pest Management Plan Administrative Regulation.
• Perform other duties as required.

C. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

• Valid, appropriate California's Driver's License
• California School Bus Special Certificate
• Valid California Highway Patrol approved First Aid Certificate
• Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Certificate Knowledge of:

• Safe driving practices
• Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children
• School District organization, functions, rules and regulations Ability to:
• Drive a school bus and other automotive equipment safely and efficiently
• Maintain order among children on a school bus
• Understand and follow oral and written directions
• Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work D. Physical Requirements
• Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, sustain moderate to heavy physical effort for up to eight (8) hours
• Ability to meet minimum physical requirements as prescribed by the California Department of Motor Vehicles
• Conduct verbal conversation in English in person, on the phone, and on a two-way radio
• Hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold conversations in normal range (approximately 60 decibels) and on a two-way radio
• Visual acuity for the purposes of driving a bus
• Sustain constant attention to vehicle operation, and traffic and road conditions
• while maintaining appropriate student passenger behavior for up to eight (8) hours
• Physical agility to sit, stand, kneel, walk, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, and to reach overhead. Physical stamina sufficient to climb slopes, stairs, ramps, and ladders
• Physical strength sufficient to infrequently lift and/or carry 50 or more pounds; occasionally lift 80 or more pounds with assistance
• Exhibit a full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation, shoulder abduction and adduction, elbow flexion and extension, shoulder extension and flexion range of motion capable of reaching and operating bus and communications controls
• Exhibit a full range of motion for back lateral flexion, hip flexion and extension, and knee flexion
• Work with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction
• Physical tolerance to be exposed to dust, pollen, specific agents/chemicals, cleaners, foul smells
• Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to use two-way radio controls and conduct vehicle inspections
• Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions and respond to emergency situations E.

Working Conditions Work in a wide range of temperatures; work in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions which include but are not limited to; heat, cold, rain, wind, and high humidity.

$26.32 - $28.47 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 per week
