Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe, timely, and courteous transportation for children participating in the B.R. Ryall YMCA Safe 'n Sound Before- and After-School Program. The Bus Driver plays an essential role in ensuring the safety and well-being of every child while creating a positive and welcoming environment that reflects the YMCA's mission and values.

•We are hiring an AM Bus Driver for Monday through Friday from 7-8:30 a.m., and a PM Bus Driver for Monday through Friday from 3-4 p.m.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Safely transport children to and from local schools and YMCA program sites according to established routes and schedules. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns. Ensure all passengers are safely seated before operating the vehicle. Maintain accurate daily transportation records, including attendance and vehicle inspection logs. Follow all federal, state, local, and YMCA transportation policies and procedures. Communicate effectively with program staff regarding participant attendance, schedule changes, and transportation concerns. Assist children with boarding and exiting the vehicle safely. Maintain appropriate discipline and behavior management while transporting participants. Respond appropriately in emergency situations following YMCA policies and emergency procedures. Keep the vehicle clean, organized, and ready for daily operation. Foster positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and YMCA staff. Support YMCA programs by demonstrating the organization's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 21 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid Illinois Driver's License. Clean driving record with the ability to meet YMCA insurance requirements. Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire). Successfully pass all required background checks. Experience working with children is preferred. Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Must be physically able to assist children entering and exiting the bus. Ability to sit while driving. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

From $20.00 per hour
