Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to established routes and schedules Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at all times to ensure passenger safety Maintain discipline and manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and behavior management techniques Respond quickly to traffic changes, road conditions, or emergencies using defensive driving and emergency response procedures Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety and cleanliness before each route Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language and professional demeanor Perform emergency stop procedures when necessary and apply first aid or CPR if required during transportation incidents Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or transit vehicle operation Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures for transportation Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform vehicle inspections involving some physical effort Experience working with children or in a customer service role is highly desirable Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for diverse communities Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques Certification in CPR and first aid; training provided if not already certified Understanding of state and local commercial driving laws as they pertain to school transportation Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt driving accordingly in dynamic conditions Embark on a rewarding career where your skills drive positive change!
