In this energetic role, you will operate activity buses, providing a secure and positive environment for children and young passengers. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles to transport students and passengers along designated routes. Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at all times to ensure passenger safety. Assist students with disabilities or special needs, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management, ensuring their comfort and security. Maintain clear communication with the main office, team staff, and emergency responders using radio or other communication devices. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment. Respond promptly to traffic changes or emergencies with quick decision-making skills and adherence to emergency response procedures for transportation. Provide excellent customer service by creating a friendly environment, addressing student behavior appropriately, and maintaining professionalism throughout the route. Handle heavy lifting when necessary for securing equipment or assisting passengers with mobility challenges. Complete all required documentation accurately, including route logs, incident reports, and vehicle maintenance records. Experience Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or commercial driving with a valid driver's license appropriate for passenger transportation Must have a CDL with passenger endorsement. Knowledge of traffic laws, state and local commercial driving laws, and transportation safety regulations related to school bus operation. Experience working with children or in environments requiring behavior management skills is highly desirable. Certifications such as First Aid and CPR are preferred; training will be provided if needed. Familiarity with emergency stop procedures, vehicle codes, and transit bus operation enhances your ability to respond effectively in critical situations. Multilingual skills or experience working with diverse populations can improve communication with students and families.
