Must be available from Monday- Friday 2:00pm to 4:30pm. Additional hours, weekends, and/or overnight travel may occasionally be needed for field trips especially during summer. Strong candidates who cannot meet this schedule may be considered for a substitute position.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The BGCS Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating the bus, transporting Club members in a professional and responsible way, and represents self as a positive, caring, respectful role model for Club members and general public.
KEY ROLES
Leadership 1. Interact with school staff, parents, and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner receiving complaints and criticism regarding schedules and quality of service in a professional and responsible manner 2. Ensure safe passage of Club members to and from designated locations 3. Establish transportation routes that are efficient, timely and responsive to the transportation needs of Club members and school officials 4. Ensure that the BGCS bus is in good operating conditions at all times, pick up & drop off Club members as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus & obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct. 5. Operate the bus in as safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, state, city and applicable driving laws/regulations 6. Perform daily safety & maintenance checks 7. Report any and all damage, needed repair via BGCS Repair Form. Advise supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs 8. Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required 9. Ensure the bus is safely and securely stored 10. Maintain schedules and maintain order of the BGCS bus 11. Pick up & deliver Club members as per established schedule 12. Take attendance on the BGCS bus 13. Ensure BGCS Club members are aware of rules & responsibilities as passengers 14. Maintain order & discipline on the bus 15. Make note and report to supervisor any behavioral of disciplinary problems immediately Strategic Planning 16. Plan, develop, and implement a route that meets the transportation needs of Club members Resource Management 17. Daily assess the safety and operating systems of the BGCS bus assigned to assure necessary maintenance issues are addressed immediately Partnership Development 18. Develop partnerships with school staff, members of the public & parents Marketing & Public Relations 19. Maintain positive and professional relationships with school staff, members of the public, parents & Club members
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
20. Work with team members in assuring the needs of Club members are met 21. Assure vehicles are maintained, fluids and filled and fuel is at least 1/2 full at all times 22. Perform other related duties
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
The BGCS Driver is required to have, as a minimum: 1) A clear/clean Class 3 CDL driver's license with a bus endorsement 2) A Criminal Records background check 3) Drug Screen Knowledge The BGCS team member must have proficient knowledge in the following areas 1) Knowledge of highway and school bus regulation 2) Knowledge of how to support children in accordance with BGCS established standards 3) Knowledge of scheduling systems and procedures 4) Knowledge of record keeping systems 5) Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards & procedures Skills The BGCS team member must demonstrate the following skills: 1) Ability to operate a school bus in a safe & responsible manner 2) Passenger service skills and public interaction skills 3) Team building 4) Analytical and problem solving skills 5) Decision making skills 6) Effective verbal and listening communication skills 7) Ability to read & write to records pickups and maintain daily records 8) Stress management skills 9) Time management skills Personal Attributes The BGCS team member must demonstrate the following personal attributes 1) Be honest & trustworthy 2) Be respectful 3) possess cultural awareness & sensitivity 4) Be flexible 5) Demonstrate sound work ethics in accordance with standards identified in the BGCS Code of Ethics • Physical demands: moderately strenuous job. The driver must sit for long periods of time and requires intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions
