CDL Bus Driver (Part-Time)

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The CDL Bus Driver operates vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, organization policies, and applicable regulations, ensuring members are transported safely and on time while maintaining a calm, orderly bus environment. This position will ensure that passenger safety, on all Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket (Club) vehicles, is the highest priority. The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting Club members to and from our Club and local schools as well as occasional field trips. Part-time, Monday
  • Friday, 15-30hrs/week, $30/hour.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report defects and maintenance need promptly.
  • Safely operate a school bus on assigned weekday drop-off, pick-up and evening drop-off routes, following prescribed stops and schedules.
  • Arrive on time for school dismissal and follow required procedures for members loading (e.g., staging, traffic checks, stop-arm/lights as applicable, and designated loading zones).
  • Unload members safely at the Club; verify members are released according to policy.
  • Maintain member order and address behavioral concerns according to policy; document and report incidents to your Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records as required (e.g., route logs, inspection forms, members rosters, incident reports).
  • Communicate with your Supervisor regarding delays, route changes, emergencies, or incidents.
  • Ensure the bus is kept clean, secured, and ready for service; follow procedures for items left behind.
  • Provide courteous, professional service to members, families, staff, and the public.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous experience driving a school bus, shuttle bus, or commercial vehicle.
  • Knowledge of local streets and traffic patterns.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Experience working with the public in a service-focused role.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to pass required background checks, drug/alcohol screening, and physical / DOT requirements (as applicable).
  • Ability to follow routes, stops, schedules, and written procedures; strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work effectively with children and teens.
  • Availability of working part-time, weekday mornings, afternoons and evenings (with occasional additional hours as needed).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement and School Bus (S) endorsement.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to safe school bus driving and the safety of all passengers necessary.
  • Must maintain all required licenses for safe operations of school buses.
  • Knowledge of bus maintenance and maintains proper documentation of preventive maintenance, performed on the vehicles required.
  • Maintain a safe driving record that is verified through periodic background checks.
  • Verify annually through proper state licensing that said driver is in good physical and mental health.
  • Knowledge in principles and practices of supervision and management
