Position Summary:
As a Mortuary Transport Specialist, you will be responsible for the safe, respectful, and timely transport of decedents from residences, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities. This position requires professionalism, discretion, physical capability, and empathy in handling sensitive situations. You will represent the company and its values in every interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform local removals from hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences Conduct long-distance ground transports as needed (over 50 miles) Handle and secure decedents using approved equipment (gurney, straps, protective coverings) Complete all required documentation for each transport Maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance of transport vehicle Adhere to all HIPAA and confidentiality standards Represent the company professionally in attire and demeanor Be available for 24/7 on-call shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays (with premium pay) Assist in route planning for efficient travel and timely arrivals Communicate with funeral directors, medical personnel, and families with sensitivity and care
Qualifications:
Valid driver's license with clean driving record Ability to lift and maneuver over 300 lbs with proper equipment and/or assistance Prior experience in mortuary, EMS, transport, or healthcare fields preferred but not required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism Ability to remain calm and composed under emotionally difficult circumstances Must pass background check and drug screening Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices
Work Environment & Schedule:
Mobile fieldwork with driving across local and regional areas Work involves lifting, walking, and occasional long hours Primary vehicle provided by company (equipped van) Schedule varies; must be available for rotating on-call shifts
