Position Summary:
The Outreach Assistant is a hands-on, physically active position supporting the day-to-day operations of the Maryland SPCA's Kibble Connection pet food pantry and Paw Plus Community Clinics. Working collaboratively with the Outreach Manager and Outreach Coordinator, this position provides direct support to community members while assisting with the physical, logistical, and administrative needs required to operate both programs. A significant portion of this position involves physical work, including regularly lifting and moving bags and boxes of pet food and supplies, loading and unloading vehicles, receiving large truck deliveries, moving pallets, operating warehouse equipment, setting up and breaking down community clinics and distributions, and maintaining an organized warehouse. The Outreach Assistant must be comfortable performing physical tasks throughout the workday and working in warehouse and outdoor environments in varied weather conditions. In addition to these responsibilities, the Outreach Assistant supports community members throughout Kibble Connection and Paw Plus, including assisting with and processing program applications, maintaining program and medical records, supporting volunteers, managing Kibble Connection inventory, and helping ensure both programs operate efficiently and provide a welcoming experience for the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform regular physical work associated with Kibble Connection and Paw Plus operations, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, loading, unloading, staging, and moving large quantities of pet food, supplies, and equipment. Receive and unload large deliveries of donated pet food and supplies, including deliveries arriving by box truck and tractor trailer that may contain multiple pallets of product. Safely operate forklifts, manual and electric pallet jacks, carts, and other warehouse equipment to unload deliveries and move, organize, and stage program inventory. Load and unload Maryland SPCA vehicles for donation pickups, community distributions, Paw Plus clinics, and other program needs. Safely drive Maryland SPCA vehicles, including large vans and other program vehicles, to transport pet food, supplies, equipment, and donations. Maintain clean, organized, and safe Kibble Connection warehouse and storage areas, including regularly moving and reorganizing inventory as donations are received and distributed. Support Kibble Connection distributions, including preparing and staging food, loading vehicles, distributing food and supplies, and assisting with setup and breakdown. Assist with Kibble Connection inventory management, including receiving, counting, tracking, organizing, rotating, and maintaining accurate inventory of pet food and supplies. Assist community members with completing applications for Kibble Connection and Paw Plus Community Clinics and answer questions regarding program processes and services Review and process Kibble Connection and Paw Plus applications according to established program guidelines and procedures by phone, email, and in person. Provide welcoming, respectful, and judgment-free support to community members accessing Kibble Connection and Paw Plus services. Assist with Paw Plus registration, clinic flow, paperwork, and medical record management, including organizing, reviewing, scanning, filing, entering, and maintaining accurate records. Work collaboratively with Community Care & Advocacy staff, veterinary teams, volunteers, community partners, and other Maryland SPCA departments to support program operations. Proactively contributes to the creation of a positive culture within the team and community. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Ability to regularly lift, carry, and move bags, boxes, and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to push and pull loaded carts, pallet jacks, and other equipment containing pet food and program supplies. Ability to load and unload vehicles and assist with unloading large commercial deliveries, including palletized shipments of pet food and supplies. Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other warehouse equipment following required training and safety procedures. Certification and training provided . Ability to remain physically active for extended periods, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Ability to assist with the physical setup and breakdown of community clinics and distributions, including moving tables, tents, equipment, supplies, food, and other program materials. Ability to work in warehouse and outdoor environments throughout the year, including during hot, cold, or otherwise varying weather conditions. This position may be exposed to animals, animal waste, and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites. The noise level and physical activity of the work environment may vary and can be elevated during truck deliveries, warehouse operations, Kibble Connection distributions, and Paw Plus Community Clinics.
Qualifications:
