Transport U works primarily with seniors, people with disabilities, and patients traveling to and from medical treatment. NEMT Drivers are usually the only Transport U employees a rider sees, and are responsible for the rider's safety, comfort, and dignity from the moment of pickup until the rider is safely delivered to their destination. NEMT Drivers will ensure all trips are completed according to Transport U's safety standards, client care guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Those who excel in this role have good driving etiquette; are friendly and respectful with good people skills; are timely and have flexible schedules; communicate, take direction well, and work well in teams; and have a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to safety. Required 21 years of age or older. Valid driver's license, held for at least 6 months with a clean driving record. Ability to pass a background check and drug and alcohol screening. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Comfort using a smartphone. Professional appearance and dependable attendance. Resides in Montgomery County (or the surrounding metropolitan area). Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Sit and drive for extended periods. Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and reach to fasten securement straps and seat belts. Push or maneuver various mobility devices up and down ramps and over curbs. Physically assist and steady riders with limited mobility. Sufficient vision, hearing, and reaction time to operate a vehicle safely. [Preferred] Flexibility to work outside the standard 9-to-5, including early mornings and weekends. Responsibilities Transportation & Safety Safely operate company vehicles to transport clients to and from medical appointments, facilities, residences, and other destinations. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report any mechanical issues or incidents immediately. Assist, steady, and brace riders during transfers, including riders weighing up to 350 lbs, using proper equipment and assistance when required. Ensure passengers are secured using proper restraints. Follow all PSC, ADA, HIPAA, and company safety protocols. Wear the approved uniform, maintain a clean professional appearance, and remove the uniform when off duty. Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and stocked with required supplies. Maintain required documentation in the vehicle. Rider Care Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate assistance to all riders. Communicate clearly with riders, caregivers, and dispatch throughout trips. Assist passengers with boarding, deboarding, and mobility equipment (wheelchair, walker, stretcher, stair climber). Handle sensitive medical and personal information confidentially. Represent Transport U positively at all pickup and drop-off locations, sharing service information when appropriate, and encouraging riders or facility staff to contact Transport U for future transportation needs. Perform CPR in emergency situations (training is provided). Trip Management & Communication Use the Transport U Trip system to confirm trip details, log mileage, and update statuses. Maintain communication with Dispatch via approved channels. Report cancellations, delays, or incidents immediately. Complete all required trip logs, mileage sheets, fuel receipts, and incident reports accurately. Comply with company policies for returning vehicles, reporting MVA violations, safeguarding company property, and maintaining the vehicle emergency kit. Most work falls within a standard weekday schedule, but this role requires real flexibility for appointments requiring early morning pickups, long-distance trips, after-hours service, and on-call shifts. Hours will vary with trip volume: most drivers work 25-30 hours per week, though the schedule fluctuates with demand and season. Drivers are offered trips as they are scheduled and are expected to respond promptly to dispatch. Please review the above and submit your resume and the name and contact information of three references to our website at www.transportu.com/careers or email your application materials to info@transportu.com.
