Duties Help As an Aircraft Flight Instructor, GS-2181-13 , you will: Plan and implement flight training and instruction for red pilots and instructor pilots in accordance with individual needs. Conduct training flights involving opering an aircraft through reference to instruments and use of automic direction finding equipment such as omni directional radials, ground control approach and instrument landing systems on and off Federal airways. Train, instruct and evalue pilots in opering aircraft using advanced instrument flight techniques. Conduct refresher, mission, and continuion training in light fixed wing or utility and observer helicopters. Train pilots in basic and advanced techniques required to support the pilot's unit mission. Advise and represent the Commander on all mters concerning aviion/ground safety reled to the facility. Ensure the facility conforms to Public Law in areas of occupional health and safety. Plan, organize and supervise safety activities for all personnel assigned to the facility. Develop, maintain and rehearse the current accident and preaccident prevention plans for the aviion facility. Conduct facility safety meetings/lectures and establish a continuing program to promote the Safety Awareness and Accident Prevention Programs. Develop and insure maximum distribution of safety literure and merials to all facility personnel. Make available and maintain a file of aviion and ground safety merials, directives, and literure. Receive, investige and report on all alleged facility safety violions and safety-reled suggestions. Monitor techniques and proficiency of aircrews in handling weapons, ammunition, and petroleum/oils/lubricants (POL). Serve as an advisor to the facility commander and others on safety concerns or missions such as drug interdiction/eradicion support by the facility. Perform other duties as assigned. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
This is an excepted service position th requires membership in a compible military assignment in the employing ste's Nional Guard, required prior to the effective de of placement. Army Nional Guard Dual Stus Officer positions. For Army Nional Guard positions, must have working experiences in civilian aviion programs; or, military service aviion programs (active duty or reserve components); or, in the Army Nional Guard Aviion Support facilities; or, in the Air Nional Guard Operions Groups. Qualificion competencies are determined by three factors in combinion: The aircraft opered; the nure and purpose of assignments; and, the degree of hazard. Experienced in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). Although a variety of piloting administrive tasks are performed in support of an Army Nional Guard aviion program, experiences include the abilities to train and instruct others in the piloting of a main-frame military aircraft. Experienced in mission tasking, intelligence reporting, and applying weher informion. Experienced in supervising and/or filing of flight plans and conducting crew briefings. Experienced in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning. Experienced in opering aircraft controls and equipment. Experienced in performing or supervising the work procedures involved in navigion, in-flight refueling; search and rescue operions; or surveillance and reconnaissance. Ability to conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operions, and advising commanders. Experienced in flight theory, air navigion, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft opering procedures, and mission tactics. Must have least two years experiences in instructing others in a specific air-frame/military aircraft. Competent to complete various piloting administrive tasks performed in support of Army Nional Guard aviion programs. Skilled to instruct others to pilot military aircraft on a regular and recurring basis. Experienced in the aviion unit quality control management programs; plus, skilled in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Army, Nional Guard Bureau, and Occupional Safety and Health Administrion directives. Experienced in following directives, regulions, accident reports, safety da, and local opering conditions to determine unit safety program requirements. Experienced in coordining with approprie agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulions and programs. Experienced in one or more missions such as, air-to-air; air-to- ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface tack; killer-scout; target illuminion; or laser targeting. Experienced in piloting manned or unmanned aircraft. Experiences may include the traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed. Experienced in on-board aircraft instrumention and aircraft mounted video cameras. Experienced in visual flight-rule type flying and aircraft instrument flying. Experienced in flying simuled "real world" comb and non-comb missions and terrain. Experienced in planning, scheduling, and conducting flights through Federal Aviion Administrion controlled nional airspace. Experienced in applying operional directives, training directives, instructions, standard opering procedures, and special instructions of Nional Guard Bureau, United Stes Army, and gaining commands. Experienced in working independently to plan and perform work assignments. Experienced in completing safe and efficient missions through the use of Operional Risk Management. Experienced in cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dicting mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordining for airport or airspace utilizion with FAA, and/or, directing emergency actions involving unit support agencies. Experienced in using applicable Army aviion regulions, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices; and, the applying instructional techniques to the training of other pilots in the Army Nional Guard flying facilities.
