Job Summary The Aerospace Packaging & Delivery Specialist manages the hands-on preservation, packing, and commercial transport of high-value, mission-critical aerospace components. This role is a vital line of defense in our quality control chain, requiring deep familiarity with aerospace packaging best practices and strict adherence to Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) prevention programs. This multi-faceted role requires a highly organized professional who can collaborate across departments to coordinate daily shipments, procure custom packaging, maintain inventory, and optimize multi-stop delivery routes. Simultaneously, you will perform hands-on, FOD-compliant packing, verify quality documentation, and safely operate our commercial motor vehicle to complete final deliveries. This position requires an active Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and full DOT certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strictly adhere to the company's internal FOD prevention program and industry standards (e.g., NAS 412 / AS9146), ensuring the packaging area remains a designated, debris-free "FOD Control Zone." Visually inspect all components, hardware, and custom containers immediately prior to sealing to ensure they are 100% free of dust, metal shavings, loose fasteners, or packaging scraps. Maintain continuous tool and material accountability; ensure no tape backings, razor blades, or debris are left inside or near open aerospace assemblies. Select and apply industry-approved packaging methods to protect sensitive aviation and space components from environmental and transit hazards. Correctly utilize Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI), ESD (electrostatic discharge) shielding bags, desiccants, and anti-static cushioning to prevent corrosion or electrical shock. Securely pack parts into custom wooden crates or multi-density foam enclosures; apply physical shock indicators, fragile markings, and contract-specific labels. Safely operate warehouse machinery (forklifts, hoists) to load high-tolerance freight. Calculate cargo layout for legal axle weight distribution and secure the load using professional straps or chains. Drive commercial vehicles safely to transport aerospace cargo to client facilities, suppliers, or prime contractors. Maintain rigorous compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines, tracking driving hours via electronic logging devices (ELD) and respecting Hours of Service (HOS) rules. Execute meticulous daily Pre-Trip and Post-Trip vehicle inspections (DVIR) to ensure the transport fleet is completely roadworthy. Partner with internal/external packaging teams/suppliers to design, quote, and procure custom wooden crates or foam enclosures well in advance of production completion timelines. Strategically plan and schedule efficient daily delivery routes featuring multiple stops, optimizing transit times, customer delivery windows, and fuel efficiency. Audit and ensure all required paperwork, including Material Certifications, Certificates of Conformance (CoC), packing lists, and trace documentation—is complete and matches the exact parts being shipped. Generate and rigorously verify shipping labels, part markings, and exterior cargo tags to guarantee zero labeling defects before items leave the facility. Collaborate daily with Quality Assurance (performing final inspections) and Logistics teams (generating shipping tickets) to track part readiness and establish the daily shipping schedule.
