Job Description

CDL Class A Oversize / Wide Load Driver - Home Weekends Barrier Reef Pools USA is hiring an experienced CDL Class A Wide Load Delivery Driver to transport fiberglass swimming pools and other oversized loads to dealers, customer locations, and installation sites. This is a specialized driving position, not traditional dry-van freight. Drivers regularly transport oversized loads that may be up to approximately 16 feet wide and must be comfortable working with oversize permits, designated routes, travel restrictions, and pilot/escort vehicles. Compensation & Schedule $0.70 per mile on total trip miles Drivers are paid for both loaded and return/empty miles $90 per diem for overnight trips $350 per day for company-approved down days Home on weekends Dedicated company freight No searching for backhauls or brokered loads
Example:
If a delivery is 500 miles from our facility, the driver is paid mileage on the entire 1,000-mile round trip, not just the 500 loaded miles. Responsibilities Safely transport fiberglass swimming pools and other oversized loads. Operate commercial trucks and trailers while hauling permitted wide loads. Follow oversize permits, approved routes, daylight restrictions, curfews, and other state-specific requirements. Coordinate with front and rear pilot/escort vehicles when required. Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Inspect straps, load securement, trailers, and equipment before departure and throughout the trip. Communicate with dispatch regarding departure, delays, delivery progress, route issues, and estimated arrival times. Maintain accurate ELD logs, DVIRs, fuel records, delivery paperwork, and other required documentation. Provide professional service when dealing with dealers, contractors, homeowners, and installation crews. Safely position the truck and trailer at customer locations for unloading. Follow all DOT, FMCSA, company safety, and hours-of-service requirements. Report equipment or maintenance concerns promptly. Maintain a clean and professional truck and work area. Be available for overnight and multi-day trips during the workweek. Qualifications Valid Class A CDL required. Current DOT medical card. Acceptable motor vehicle record. At least 2 years of CDL driving experience preferred . Previous oversize or wide-load experience strongly preferred. Flatbed, lowboy, gooseneck, heavy-haul, or specialized transportation experience is a plus. Must be comfortable hauling loads considerably wider than the truck and trailer. Ability to read and follow oversize permits and designated routes. Ability to communicate effectively with dispatch, escort drivers, customers, and DOT/law-enforcement personnel. Must be dependable, safety-minded, and capable of working independently. Comfortable using GPS, smartphones, ELD systems, and company applications. Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on weather, permit restrictions, daylight hours, delivery appointments, and road conditions. Must be willing to spend multiple nights away from home during the week. About the Work Our drivers transport fiberglass swimming pools rather than traditional boxed freight. Loads may commonly be 12, 14, 15, or approximately 16 feet wide . Depending on the size of the load and states traveled, drivers may work with one or more pilot cars and may be subject to: Daylight-only travel Oversize curfews Restricted routes Construction restrictions Holiday travel restrictions Weather restrictions State-specific permit requirements Safety and judgment are extremely important in this position. Drivers are expected to stop or delay travel when conditions are unsafe rather than taking unnecessary risks to meet a delivery time.
