Responsibilities :

This position receives general direction from Department Supervisors and is a working position related to the construction and maintenance of municipal roads and other municipal facilities. Responsible for routine care and maintenance of light to heavy duty trucks and other motorized and non-motorized equipment. Most of the work is performed outdoors with exposure to heat/cold and inclement weather. The employee must be able to deal effectively with co-workers and the public. Road maintenance repair including but not limited to repair of roads, manholes, catch basins and drainage systems: apply pavement markings, raking, dumping, rolling of asphalt, gravel, stone; cutting and chipping of brush/trees; snowplowing, sanding, and salting; picking up and disposing of dead animals, and beautification projects of roads and other Town property. Other tasks assigned as per the job description.

Qualifications :

A High School diploma or GED is required plus two years' experience in roadway construction. Must be familiar with computer software and can learn specific software related to the Town of Westport and assigned department. Must be able to communicate (verbally and in written form) with supervisors, vendors, and other Town employees to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Preemployment physical and drug tests are required. Must have and maintain a valid CDL Class B CT Driver's License with an "N" endorsement for liquid bulk/tank cargo and related medical card. Criminal background and reference checks required prior to employment.
