Operates trucks and variety of construction equipment utilized in construction, maintenance and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of roads, bridges, drainage systems and equipment. Works under the close supervision of a District or Labor Foreman.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies. Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, dump truck, pickup truck, utility trailer, tractors, highway mowers and loaders. Operates winter maintenance equipment such as material spreaders, underbody scrapers and front end plows. Operates jackhammers, lawn mowers, chainsaws, and other small equipment and tools to maintain roads and bridges. Works with and assists the crew in digging ditches; pot hole patching; flagging; seal patching; digging post holes; cutting and trimming trees; grading and loading material; lifting and moving material, tools and equipment; winter maintenance; guardrail installation; and any other related work using heavy equipment and other small equipment and tools. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs some or all of the duties of other maintenance workers, as required or assigned. Operates other equipment as assigned. The typical duties stated herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
