The Transport Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for residents of the assisted living facility to medical appointments, shopping trips, community activities, and other approved destinations. This position assists residents as needed during boarding and exiting, maintains the assigned vehicle, and supports a positive resident experience while following facility policies and all applicable transportation and safety requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safely transport residents to and from scheduled appointments, outings, and facility-approved activities.
Operate facility vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, defensive-driving practices, and organizational policies.
Assist residents with entering and exiting vehicles, including the safe use of steps, handrails, walkers, wheelchairs, and vehicle lifts when trained and authorized.
Secure mobility devices and ensure residents use seat belts or other required restraints before the vehicle moves.
Provide respectful, patient, and person-centered service while preserving resident dignity, privacy, and independence.
Follow assigned routes and schedules, communicate delays promptly, and maintain accurate trip, mileage, fuel, and passenger records.
Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checks of tires, lights, fluids, safety equipment, cleanliness, and fuel level.
Report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, mechanical concerns, safety hazards, and resident-related incidents immediately according to facility procedures.
Keep the vehicle interior clean, sanitary, orderly, and ready for resident use.
Coordinate with facility staff regarding transportation schedules and resident needs while sharing only information necessary to perform the job.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, follow established procedures, and contact emergency services or facility leadership when required.
Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle operated and an acceptable driving record.
Ability to meet facility, licensing, and insurance eligibility requirements.
Previous professional driving, senior living, healthcare, passenger service, or customer service experience preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification within the timeframe established by the facility.
Ability to complete required background checks, drug screening, health screening, and driver-safety training.
Knowledge of safe passenger-assistance practices and willingness to complete training on wheelchair lifts and mobility-device securement.
Ability to communicate clearly, follow written and verbal instructions, maintain confidentiality, and interact professionally with residents, families, staff, and community partners. Physical and Scheduling Requirements
Ability to sit and drive for extended periods and to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and use vehicle controls.
Ability to assist residents with mobility and handle equipment within facility-defined safe-lifting limits, with assistance or mechanical devices when required.
Visual and hearing ability sufficient to operate a vehicle safely and monitor traffic, passengers, alarms, and emergency conditions.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied weather and road conditions.
Availability for a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional schedule changes based on resident needs.
