Duties Assist the driver with loading, unloading, and securing waste containers onto garbage trucks such as front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, and roll-off trucks Ensure proper handling of waste materials in compliance with hazardous materials regulations and safety standards Perform routine inspections of garbage trucks to identify mechanical issues or safety concerns, including understanding air brake systems and manual transmission operations Follow traffic laws and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations during route driving to ensure safe transportation of waste materials Support route driving by helping to load and unload debris efficiently while adhering to municipal waste management procedures Maintain cleanliness of work area and vehicles, ensuring all safety protocols are followed during outdoor work activities Communicate professionally with customers when interacting during collection routes, providing excellent customer service and addressing any concerns Skills Experience operating or assisting with front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, or roll-off trucks is highly desirable Knowledge of heavy lifting techniques and manual transmission vehicle operation for safe handling of waste containers Familiarity with solid waste management practices and safety protocol adherence in outdoor environments Understanding of traffic laws, state transportation regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards for commercial driving Mechanical knowledge to identify basic issues with garbage trucks and support routine maintenance checks Strong commitment to safety procedures related to air brake systems, hazardous materials handling, and heavy equipment operation Excellent customer service skills to interact positively with community members during collection routes This role is perfect for motivated individuals eager to contribute to community health while developing essential skills in commercial truck driving and waste management.
