This position performs technical duties in the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signals. Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signal cabinet equipment. Installs, repairs, and maintains all traffic signal equipment. Performs complex repairs on signal equipment and is able to read and interpret diagnostic test equipment. Program timing data into master and local controllers. Perform emergency repairs after normal duty hours. Operate aerial lift equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of the principles and practices of traffic signal construction and signal component equipment repair. Knowledge of the principles and practices of directing traffic. Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices. Skill in the use of personal computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the operation of aerial lift equipment. Skill in problem solving and decision making. Skill in oral and written communication. Prefer knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized education or training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with the required high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for one year is preferred, but not required. Must have possession of or the ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
