About the Employer The City of Exeter has a well-known reputation as a charming community with a quaint downtown, rich history, and murals that people travel long distances to see. Exeter is also known for being a great place to live and raise children and the school district plays a key role in maintaining that reputation. The Exeter Unified School District is comprised of two elementary schools serving students Pre-school thru grade 5, a middle school with grades 6-8, a comprehensive high school, a continuation high school, a community day school and a variety of alternative education programs to meet student needs. We provide students with a high-quality education that is enhanced by a technology device for every student in every classroom, access to music beginning in elementary school, and a wide range of extra and co-curricular activities that leads to well-rounded graduates. Nearly all of our students pursue an education or certificate training after leaving Exeter Union High School. Our District has three main focus areas that have between 3-5 goals each. The three areas are Safety, Academics, and Connectedness. We strive to provide the safest place possible for our students and staff. We regularly perform safety drills, routinely examine procedures and work diligently to maintain and improve all school facilities. We have rigorous academics that include Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses taught on our high school campus complemented by award-winning elective programs in Agriculture, Music, and Graphic Arts, Media and Entertainment (GAME). The goals in the area of Connectedness include 100% of our students participating in at least one extra or co-curricular activity such as sports, music, academic competitions or active club membership. Job Summary Job Summary Under general supervision of the Director of Transportation or designee. Drives a District van over designated routes according to established time schedules. Pick up and discharge pupils at designated locations. Keep inside and outside of vehicle clean and fueled. Maintain mileage records, daily vehicle reports and vehicle inspection reports. Adheres to District policies and procedures in maintaining appropriate student behavior to assure sage vehicle operation. Perform other related duties. QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Safe driving practices and techniques.
- Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code, the California Education Code, and current city and District regulations applicable to the operation of vehicles in transportation of school children.
- Basic First Aid procedures and methods.
- Local demography of area.
Ability to:
- Drive a van and other automotive equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain order among children in vehicle.
- Learn designated routes, appropriate stops and hazards.
- Flexibility of daily routes and schedule.
- Obtain a standard First Aid certificate;
- Obtain required yearly Inservice hours
- Maintain cooperative, effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's license
- Certification of CPR/First Aid
- Possession of a safe driving record - Enrollment in Pull Program with DMV The successful candidate must meet all requirements of California Senate Bill 88 (SB 88) for transporting students.
