POSITION SUMMARY
Provides safe transportation to and from various sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license and insurance. Drives bus/vehicle safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws. This includes before school drop-offs, after school pickups, field trips, errands and other YMCA events. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus/vehicle each day. Complete all required logs, forms, paperwork, etc as required. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked. Ensure all occupants wear proper safety restraints (seat belts, car seats, etc) at all times. Ensure all occupants exit the vehicle at the proper time; ensure no children/occupants are left in the vehicle. Ensures that vehicle rules are announced and followed. Do not allow eating in YMCA vehicles. Make sure vehicles are checked after each trip; remove any articles that may be left behind, including paper and personal items and children. Do not run personal errands on your route. Stay on route.
DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN UNATTENDED AT ANY TIME!
Keep vehicles clean and assist in washing and cleaning the vehicles when necessary. Refueling vehicles with gas, checking all fluids. Assist in the upkeep of the parking lot, picking up trash, etc. Make sure any problems are reported to the Director of Children and Youth Programming or Branch Manager immediately. Ensure tag is current and proof of insurance and registration are in the glove compartment. At no time are weapons allowed in YMCA vehicles. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children, communicated regularly. Ensure all program participants are safe and follow all rules and regulations set in place by the YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus, GA. Report any unsafe acts. Be familiar with handling problems & incidents and procedures for reporting problems and incidents. Abide by YMCA Vehicle/Driver Policy. Abide by YMCA Driver Acceptability Guidelines/Policy. Abide by all YMCA Policies, Procedures, Guidelines and Standards. Receiving money from members, guests or program participants is strictly prohibited. All money should be receipted in through the Front Desk. Cell phone usage, texting, phone calls, social sites are all strictly prohibited while driving or on the clock. Cell phones should remain out of sight at all times. Strictly abide by the Georgia Hands-Free Law. Provide an enjoyable experience for each child. Never assume anything as it relates to staff, children or parents. Abide by all YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus, GA Child Care Policies. Attend all Staff meetings as required. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years of age with at least 3 year driving experience. Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver preferred. Must Possess and maintain a current appropriate class license. Must pass
YMCA MVR
requirements. Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus). Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid. Desire and ability to work with children. Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents. Must have a high level of patience and tolerance and be able to work with children. Should have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals. Must have emotional maturity, good moral character, common sense and integrity. Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances. Good communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards. Testing may be required. Must be alert, have sound judgment, good depth perception. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Ability to safely drive a bus/van/vehicle for long periods of time. Ability to respond to emergency situations.
