Highland Forest Daycare & Early Learning Center Position Summary Highland Forest Daycare & Early Learning Center is seeking a dependable, responsible, and positive Van Driver & After-School Care Teacher to provide safe transportation for our school-age children and support our after-school program. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, takes safety seriously, and can confidently manage a group of school-age students. The employee will spend part of the afternoon transporting children from local schools and the remainder of the day supervising and engaging students at Highland Forest.
Schedule & Primary Responsibilities School Transportation:
Safely operate the Highland Forest van to transport school-age children from designated schools to the center. Follow all transportation, supervision, and safety procedures. Complete required vehicle and transportation checks. Maintain accurate attendance and transportation records. Conduct required child counts before, during, and after transportation. Maintain a calm, professional environment while children are in the vehicle. Follow established routes and schedules. Communicate promptly with administration regarding transportation concerns, delays, or changes. Report any vehicle maintenance or safety concerns immediately. Follow all Texas child care licensing and Highland Forest transportation requirements. Approximately 4:30 PM-6:00
PM:
After-School Care Supervise school-age children in a safe, structured, and positive environment. Assist with afternoon routines, snacks, bathroom breaks, and transitions. Support homework completion and age-appropriate learning activities. Plan and participate in activities such as outdoor play, games, art, STEM, reading, and other enrichment activities. Maintain appropriate supervision and accurate child counts at all times. Use positive guidance and maintain appropriate classroom expectations. Keep the classroom and activity areas clean, organized, and ready for use. Complete required documentation in Brightwheel. Communicate professionally with families and administration. Assist with closing responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old to drive the Highland Forest vehicle. Valid Texas driver's license with a clean and acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation to and from work. Previous experience working with children preferred. Child care, teaching, education, or youth program experience preferred. Must be dependable, punctual, responsible, and comfortable working independently. Must demonstrate good judgment and the ability to remain calm in busy situations. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with children, families, and staff. Must successfully complete all required background checks, screening, and training. Physical Requirements Ability to safely supervise children throughout the afternoon. Ability to sit for extended periods while driving. Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and move around the classroom and playground. Ability to lift and carry children or classroom materials when necessary. Ability to respond quickly to children's safety and supervision needs. Our van driver is often one of the first Highland Forest team members children interact with after leaving school, so professionalism, consistency, and a positive attitude matter.
