This is a field-based position expected to last approximately 1.5 years . The inspector must be able to commute daily to the project site using their own reliable vehicle. A fuel card will be provided for approved project-related travel. Position Summary The Building Construction Inspector / Resident Project Representative will serve as the Engineer's field representative at the project site. The inspector will observe the work, document construction progress, attend project meetings, coordinate with the Contractor, and help determine whether the work is generally proceeding in accordance with the approved plans, specifications, and contract documents. This position requires someone who can read construction plans, understand building construction activities, prepare daily reports, communicate professionally, and identify potential issues early. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Serve as the Engineer's representative at the project site. Communicate primarily with the Engineer, Owner's representative, and Contractor. Coordinate with subcontractors only through the Contractor or with the Contractor's knowledge and approval. Attend project meetings, including preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, jobsite meetings, and other project-related meetings. Prepare and distribute meeting notes or minutes when requested. Observe daily construction activities and document progress. Review work for general conformance with the contract documents, plans, specifications, and approved submittals. Observe work related to building, structural, plumbing, electrical, mechanical/HVAC, architectural, and general construction improvements. Identify and document work that appears defective, incomplete, or inconsistent with the contract documents. Notify the project team when work may need additional review, testing, inspection, or approval. Observe inspections performed by public agencies, testing firms, or other agencies having jurisdiction. Accompany visiting inspectors when required. Assist the Engineer and Owner in communication with the Contractor when construction activities affect Owner operations. Assist in obtaining additional information or clarification needed for the Contractor to properly perform the work. Review Contractor payment applications with the Contractor and assist the Engineer with progress verification. Prepare daily inspection reports with photos, work activities, manpower, equipment, weather, visitors, field issues, and upcoming work. Track construction progress, potential delays, field issues, deficiencies, and corrective actions. Assist with substantial completion inspections. Assist with preparation of punch lists and final punch lists. Observe whether punch list items have been completed or corrected. Maintain organized project records, photos, reports, meeting notes, and inspection documentation. Safety-Related Responsibilities The inspector is expected to comply with applicable site safety requirements and participate in required safety training related to their own personal safety while on site. If the inspector observes or suspects an unsafe work practice, the inspector shall immediately notify the Contractor of the possible or actual safety concern. If the condition presents significant risk, the inspector may take action appropriate to the risk, including stopping the work. If the Contractor does not acknowledge or address the safety concern, the inspector shall immediately notify the Owner's representative and document the issue. Limitations of Authority The Building Construction Inspector / Resident Project Representative does not have authority to : Authorize deviations from the contract documents. Approve substitutions of materials or equipment. Approve "or-equal" items. Exceed the authority granted to the Engineer under the contract documents. Take over the responsibilities of the Contractor, subcontractors, suppliers, or testing agencies. Direct the Contractor's means, methods, techniques, sequences, or procedures of construction. Direct or control the Contractor's safety program, safety practices, site security, or construction operations. Perform specialized field or laboratory testing unless specifically authorized. Authorize the Owner to occupy all or part of the project. Make design changes or approve changes in scope, cost, or schedule. Direct subcontractors without the Contractor's knowledge or approval. Desired Experience Building construction inspection experience. Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, details, and submittals. Experience with structural, plumbing, electrical, mechanical/HVAC, architectural, and general building construction. Ability to document work clearly and accurately. Good communication skills with contractors, engineers, owners, and project team members. Ability to work independently in the field. Basic computer/tablet skills for daily reports, photos, email, and PDF plans. ICC, OSHA, ACI, or other construction certifications are a plus but not required. Underground utility, water main, or water infrastructure experience is a strong plus. Long-Term Opportunity This project is expected to last approximately 1.5 years . H2O Urban Solutions' primary work is in water main, underground utility, and water infrastructure construction management and inspection . An inspector with underground utility experience, or someone who performs well and is willing to learn that work, may have an opportunity to remain with H2Ou after this project. Requirements Must be able to commute daily to the Rosemead, CA area. Must have reliable transportation. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to use personal vehicle to travel to the jobsite. Fuel card will be provided for approved project-related travel. Must be dependable, professional, and able to document work clearly. Must be able to work on an active construction site and follow site safety requirements. Project Duration Approximately 1.5 years , depending on the construction schedule and client needs. Job Type Full-time, project-based Schedule Monday through Friday, day shift. Occasional overtime may be required depending on construction activities. Compensation Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and certifications.
