JOB SUMMARY
The Director of the Mee Memorial Healthcare System Foundation provides strategic and hands-on leadership for the organization's philanthropic program. Working in close partnership with executive leadership and the Foundation Board, the Director builds donor and community relationships, develops fundraising strategies, and secures charitable support for approved healthcare priorities across South Monterey County.

Because this is a part-time leadership role, the Director will focus on the highest-impact activities: major donor cultivation, annual giving, grants and sponsorships, board engagement, donor stewardship, and disciplined Foundation operations. The Director serves as a visible ambassador for Mee Memorial and translates the healthcare system's priorities into clear and compelling opportunities for community investment.

Fundraising Strategy and Execution
  • Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan aligned with healthcare system priorities and approved by appropriate leadership and the Foundation Board.
  • Manage a balanced portfolio of major gifts, annual giving, grants, sponsorships, memorial and tribute gifts, employee giving, and planned-giving opportunities appropriate to the organization's capacity.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, businesses, foundations, and community partners throughout South Monterey County and the broader region.
  • Prepare donor proposals, cases for support, grant applications, sponsorship materials, appeals, and other fundraising communications.
  • Maintain an active donor pipeline, document next steps, and report progress against practical fundraising and engagement goals.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure that fundraising commitments are consistent with approved organizational priorities and can be fulfilled as represented to donors. Donor and Community Relations
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with current and prospective donors, grateful patients and families, local businesses, agricultural partners, civic organizations, community leaders, and philanthropic institutions.
  • Represent the Foundation and Mee Memorial at donor meetings, community gatherings, hospital events, and selected public functions.
  • Create a consistent stewardship program that includes timely acknowledgments, impact updates, recognition, and meaningful donor engagement.
  • Coordinate donor visits and, when appropriate, involve executives, physicians, clinical leaders, or board members while protecting patient privacy and complying with applicable requirements.
  • Help communicate the healthcare needs and opportunities of South Monterey County in a manner that is respectful, locally informed, and culturally responsive. Foundation Board and Volunteer Leadership
  • Lead the identification, cultivation, and recruitment of qualified Foundation Board members who reflect the communities, industries, cultures, and philanthropic interests of South Monterey County.
  • Develop and maintain a board-recruitment pipeline in partnership with the Foundation Board Chair and Mee Memorial Healthcare System leadership.
  • Coordinate the orientation, education, engagement, and ongoing development of new and existing Foundation Board members.
  • Help establish clear expectations for board members related to attendance, community advocacy, donor introductions, fundraising participation, and personal philanthropic support.
  • Evaluate board composition regularly and recommend candidates who address identified needs in expertise, geographic representation, community relationships, and diversity.
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Foundation Board and support the Board Chair in developing agendas, meeting materials, minutes, committee work, and follow-through
  • Provide the Board with timely fundraising, financial, donor-engagement, and program reports that support effective governance and decision-making.
  • Engage board members and volunteers in donor introductions, cultivation, stewardship, community outreach, and fundraising activities.
  • Support board recruitment, orientation, education, and succession planning in collaboration with Foundation and healthcare system leadership.
  • Maintain clear alignment among the Foundation Board, healthcare system leadership, and organizational strategic priorities. Foundation Operations and Stewardship
  • Prepare and manage the Foundation's annual operating budget and monitor revenue, expenses, restricted funds, and fundraising performance in coordination with Finance.
  • Ensure gifts are documented, acknowledged, deposited, restricted, tracked, and reported accurately and in accordance with donor intent, organizational policy, and applicable law.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential donor records and oversee effective use of donor-management systems, prospect files, and reporting tools.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Compliance, Marketing, Legal counsel, and other departments as needed to support sound nonprofit governance and fundraising practices.
  • Evaluate fundraising events carefully for mission alignment, community value, staff capacity, cost, and return on investment; lead or support only those approved as part of the annual plan.
  • Coordinate vendors, contractors, volunteers, and limited administrative support associated with Foundation activities. Performance Expectations
  • Builds a qualified donor pipeline and demonstrates consistent, documented donor activity.
  • Achieves annual fundraising goals established collaboratively with leadership and the Foundation Board.
  • Provides timely and accurate board, financial, gift, and donor reports.
  • Improves donor retention, stewardship, and community engagement over time.
  • Protects donor intent, confidentiality, and the reputation of Mee Memorial Healthcare System.
  • Uses part-time hours effectively by prioritizing relationship-based fundraising and high-value activities. Organization-Wide Expectations
