JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Buyer/Planner plays an integral role at Pro-Dex, with responsibility for material flow throughout the entire supply chain, both internally and externally, from raw materials to finished goods shipped to customers. This role includes full ownership of assigned product categories and oversight of all phases of the planning and purchasing processes associated with manufacturing and production, including demand planning specifically for the battery commodity. Purchasing responsibilities include production materials, components, packaging, labeling, and finished devices. Planning activities support a manufacturing environment and include the creation and execution of job orders for both internal and external processes.
JOB DUTIES
Strong hands-on experience using MRP/ERP systems mainly to plan battery commodity demand along with other assigned components and subassemblies Drive strategic initiatives and implement best practices including managing day-to-day demand planning, ordering, and prioritization. Adjust production schedules based on customer demand, capacity, and lead times to respond quickly to material shortages, supplier delays, machine downtime, or urgent customer orders. Create and release job orders and purchase orders for external processes. Solid understanding of machine capacity, labor constraints, and workflow to align production schedules with actual shop capabilities. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate purchasing and planning. Identify and resolve supply chain issues by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing, and external suppliers. Manage and monitor the status of open job orders and purchase orders. Analyze purchasing trends, identify cost saving opportunities, and support budgeting and forecasting activities. Demonstrated ability to source materials, negotiate pricing, manage supplier relationships, and track vendor performance (on-time delivery, quality, and cost), including identifying and qualifying alternative vendors and material sources. Follow up on received materials through inspection and ensure proper stocking. Support the production department and additional areas as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Strong computer and mathematical skills. Experience with M2M or similar ERP systems preferred. Proficiency in PC applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as manufacturing data systems. Thorough understanding of purchasing and planning processes. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, new product development environment. Knowledge of material planning requirements with the ability to execute effectively. Proven ability to manage the full value chain from start to finish, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve on-time delivery under strict quality standards. Demonstrated willingness to take on significant responsibility across supply chain, logistics, engineering, and material planning functions, with a strong focus on speed and accuracy.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Ensure the availability of the right products and materials at the required time, cost, and quality, without discrepancies. Maintain strict quality and budget standards for all purchases. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain reorder levels for all related products. Ensure all quality standards associated with the role are consistently met. Maintain a safe working environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration; CPIM certification preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of purchasing and/or planning experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma principles.
