Job Summary Our busy meat processing plant is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our procurement team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials and services essential to our operations. Your expertise in supply chain management systems and vendor relationship management will ensure seamless procurement processes, optimal inventory levels, and cost-effective purchasing strategies. Your goal is to ensure an uninterrupted production flow while negotiating the best market prices and upholding strict quality standards. Duties Manage the end-to-end procurement process Order raw meat (beef, pork, poultry), ingredients, and packaging materials based on production schedules and inventory forecasts. Source suppliers and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and contractual agreements to secure the best value for the company. Collaborate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of quality materials while maintaining strong vendor relationship management. Ensure all incoming raw materials meet USDA regulations, food safety guidelines, and company quality benchmarks Utilize inventory management tools and MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems to forecast needs and maintain optimal stock levels. Analyze Excel data and spreadsheets for procurement trends, pricing analysis, and supply chain optimization. Coordinate with internal departments on materials requirements, ensuring alignment with production schedules and inventory control standards. Support supply chain management initiatives by monitoring vendor performance, resolving supply issues, and implementing sourcing strategies. Resolve delivery delays, invoice discrepancies, or substandard product shipments quickly with vendors. Requirements Proven experience with materials management and purchasing functions. Strong understanding of supply chain management principles including inventory control, sourcing, procurement, and vendor negotiation. Proficiency in using spreadsheets (Excel), accounting software, and other tools for data analysis and reporting. Excellent communication skills for vendor negotiation and maintaining productive supplier relationships. Knowledge of direct negotiation procurement processes to optimize pricing and supply chain efficiency. Ability to analyze complex data sets to inform purchasing decisions and improve inventory management practices. Qualification and Skills 2 to 4 years of purchasing, buying, or supply chain experience, preferably within food manufacturing, meat processing, or the perishable goods industry.
