The Buyer will be responsible for identifying merchandise that aligns with our customers, store locations, seasonal demand, and company sales objectives. This position will work closely with vendors, management, inventory teams, and store operations to ensure the right products are purchased at the right quantities, prices, and times. The ideal candidate has experience in retail buying, merchandising, fashion, swimwear, resort wear, or related apparel categories and has a strong understanding of product trends, pricing, margins, inventory management, and vendor relationships. Key Responsibilities Manage purchasing for swimwear, beachwear, resort wear, and related apparel categories across company retail locations. Research current and upcoming fashion, swimwear, beach, and resort-wear trends to identify new merchandise opportunities. Select products, styles, colors, sizes, and assortments appropriate for the company's customer base and individual store markets. Develop seasonal merchandise assortments based on historical sales, current trends, inventory levels, and projected demand. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, minimum order quantities, delivery schedules, and other purchasing conditions with vendors. Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while identifying and evaluating new vendors and brands. Attend trade shows, vendor meetings, showrooms, and other industry events as needed to identify new products and trends. Prepare, review, and manage purchase orders and ensure accuracy of quantities, costs, delivery dates, and product information. Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with vendors regarding production, shipping, backorders, delays, and delivery schedules. Analyze sales performance by product, style, category, store, and season to support future purchasing decisions. Monitor inventory levels and sell-through to identify opportunities for reorders, transfers, markdowns, or changes in future purchasing. Work with Inventory Control and Operations to maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing overstock and slow-moving merchandise. Evaluate product profitability by reviewing cost, retail pricing, margins, markdowns, and overall category performance. Recommend retail pricing based on product cost, competitive positioning, target margins, and market conditions. Collaborate with management on merchandise strategies, seasonal purchasing plans, and category budgets. Review samples and evaluate product quality, fit, materials, construction, packaging, and overall suitability before placing orders. Maintain accurate vendor, product, pricing, and purchasing information within company systems. Communicate relevant product information and merchandise strategies to store operations and other departments. Identify underperforming merchandise and recommend corrective actions. Travel to stores, vendor locations, markets, and trade shows when required. Qualifications Previous experience in retail buying, purchasing, merchandising, apparel, swimwear, beachwear, or fashion strongly preferred. Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating pricing, and purchasing terms. Strong understanding of retail inventory, product margins, sell-through, seasonal purchasing, and merchandise planning. Ability to identify fashion and consumer trends and translate them into commercially successful merchandise selections. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Ability to analyze sales and inventory reports and make purchasing decisions based on data. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple vendors, purchase orders, and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and purchasing/inventory management systems. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or Dynamics 365 is a plus. Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
