POSITION TITLE
Senior BuyerPOSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for managing plant inventories of raw materials, production and maintenance supplies, packaging materials, and related items to ensure adequate materials are available at the time they are needed. Will be the liaison between the plant and its suppliers. Supervise junior buyers.REPORTING TO
Plant ManagerPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the plant's raw material inventory. Utilize the MRP system and other reports to ensure adequate supplies and materials are available to support the production schedule (and schedule changes).
- Create\modify\execute reports to align purchases (considering lead times) and inventory levels with plant consumption of raw materials.
- Conducts cycle counts of raw materials as determined necessary to ensure accurate and appropriate inventory levels.
- Identify and manage inventory levels for time sensitive (shelf-life) materials to avoid expiration.
- Issue purchase orders to suppliers and then follow-up with supplier to verify the on-time delivery of goods. Initiate corrective actions as need to address any delivery issues that are found.
- Responsible for creating and issuing purchase requisitions and orders for: o raw materials, o maintenance parts, o production and maintenance supplies, o personal protective equipment, and others as required.
- Manages vendor interactions such as: o issue purchase orders, change requests, specifications, etc. o Collection of Certificates of Analysis report if missing in shipment (PO requirement), o Forward Correct Actions/Defective Material Reports from our quality department to the supplier. Support Quality department's follow up activities.
- Manage and maintain proper inventory levels of expense goods (packaging and production supplies, etc.)
- Monitor raw material inbound freight costs. Work closely with suppliers and our Transportation Dept. to minimize costs.
- Leverage our sourcing positions to identify the suppliers that will best suit our requirements (quality, specifications, service) and negotiate the best price and terms possible.
- Maintain supplier information files (quotes, correspondence, quality issues, etc.)
- Follow company process for approving new suppliers.
- Supervise plant and maintenance buyers. o Coordinate PTO schedule with plant and ensure coverage if needed, o Provide performance feedback (from production and yourself), o Mentor and train.
- Interview potential buyer candidates and train those who are hired.
- Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with material resource planning (AS-400 preferred) or enterprise resource planning systems.
- Experience with
ISO 9001
2015 and its requirements for purchasing.- Requires bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience as a buyer.
- A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in acquisition and contract management is preferred.
- APIC Certification (CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, CTSC)
