Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Purchaser / Cost Analyst to join our purchasing team. This role is vital in managing purchasing activities, analyzing costs, and ensuring financial efficiency across our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in financial analysis, cost management, and accounting systems to optimize procurement processes, support budgeting efforts, and contribute to strategic decision-making. Responsibilities Analyze supplier quotations, cost breakdowns, and market pricing trends to identify cost reduction opportunities. Develop and maintain cost models for production parts, tooling, packaging, freight, and indirect materials. Perform price variance analysis and monitor cost changes from suppliers. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual purchasing cost savings reports. Analyze material, freight, tariff, and overhead cost impacts to support purchasing decisions. Create management reports, dashboards, and financial summaries using Excel and other reporting tools. Support budget planning and forecast activities related to purchasing and supply chain operations. Support the Assistant Manager - Purchasing in evaluating the financial impact of sourcing decisions. Assist Purchasing Agents with analytical support for supplier selection and contract reviews. Review purchase requisition and purchase order data to ensure compliance with purchasing policies. Support new supplier onboarding activities through cost evaluations and business case analysis. Assist in preparing documentation for management approvals and purchasing projects Requirements Strong knowledge of cost accounting, purchasing, supply chain, and manufacturing processes. Ability to analyze large amounts of data and identify cost-saving opportunities. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, Power Query, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, AS400/BPCS, or similar systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of supplier quotations, RFQs, purchasing contracts, and negotiation processes. Understanding of freight, tariff, duty, and logistics cost structures. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and supplier information. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, and Production departments Evaluate supplier pricing and cost structures. Support Purchasing staff during RFQ analysis and supplier negotiations. Compare quotations from multiple suppliers and recommend sourcing decisions based on total cost of ownership.
