Job Title:
Purchasing Analyst Job Description The Purchasing Analyst is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of procurement for products, components, and supplies. This role involves handling end-to-end buying activities, including issuing purchase orders and driving continuous cost savings and supply chain efficiency through strong vendor relationships and strategic negotiations. The role focuses on buying, negotiating, and innovating while ensuring enterprise alignment through close collaboration with forecast planning, logistics, inventory management, quality assurance, warehouse, finance, and sales teams. Responsibilities Maintain vendor relationships by evaluating bids, negotiating contracts and terms, issuing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies. Analyze spend data, purchase history, market trends, and supplier pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities, potential risks, and areas for process improvement. Conduct market research and supplier evaluations to assess capabilities, pricing competitiveness, quality, reliability, and compliance with organizational standards. Support contract negotiations by preparing data analysis, cost comparisons, and recommendations for favorable terms, pricing, and service levels. Monitor inventory levels, purchase orders, and supplier delivery performance; track key metrics such as on-time delivery, cost variance, and supplier data. Perform regular audits of purchasing processes, vendor relationships, and transactional data to identify inefficiencies or non-compliance issues. Track and report on procurement KPIs, savings achieved, spend analysis, and compliance, and prepare periodic reports for management review. Support continuous improvement initiatives in purchasing processes and automation. Essential Skills Strong negotiation skills and analytical abilities. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and charts. Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or procurement software like Coupa or Ariba. Knowledge of purchasing processes, sourcing strategies, contract basics, and supply chain fundamentals. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and build effective relationships with suppliers and internal departments. Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and handle confidential information. Additional Skills & Qualifications 2-4+ years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or a related role. A degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field. (Preferred but not required) Certifications such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or APICS-related credentials. (Preferred) Work Environment This role operates within a mid-sized medical device manufacturing environment, engaging with various departments to ensure optimal procurement practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Elgin, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $43.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
