Job Description

The Used Car Buyer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing pre-owned vehicles to maintain a competitive and profitable inventory across the dealership group. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the right mix of vehicles is available to meet customer demand while maximizing gross profit. Responsibilities Source used vehicle inventory through auctions, trade-ins, private sellers, and online marketplaces Evaluate vehicles for condition, market value, and resale potential Negotiate purchase prices to ensure profitability and alignment with dealership goals Monitor market trends, pricing guides, and competitor inventory Work closely with Sales Managers to identify inventory needs and gaps Manage vehicle acquisition process from purchase through delivery Ensure all purchased vehicles meet company standards and compliance requirements Maintain strong relationships with auction representatives, wholesalers, and vendors Track and report on inventory performance, turn rates, and gross profit Qualifications Previous automotive buying, sales, or appraisal experience required Strong negotiation and decision-making skills Knowledge of used vehicle market trends, pricing tools, and valuation methods Ability to work independently and manage multiple purchases simultaneously Strong attention to detail and analytical skills Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary plus performance-based commission/bonus Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off and holidays Employee discounts Opportunities for advancement within John Jones Auto Group
