This position works closely with project managers, superintendents, estimators, vendors, and accounting to ensure materials are purchased at competitive prices, delivered on schedule, and accurately tracked. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Issue purchase orders for materials, equipment, rentals, and subcontracted services. Obtain competitive pricing and quotations from multiple vendors. Negotiate pricing, lead times, freight costs, and payment terms. Ensure purchases comply with project budgets, specifications, and company standards. Verify pricing against estimates, contracts, and negotiated agreements. Work with project managers and field supervisors to prioritize urgent material requests. Coordinate specialty material procurement for unique project requirements. Track inventory levels for commonly used materials and consumables and coordinate replenishment of stock items. Follow up on open contracts and purchase orders. Evaluate vendor performance regarding pricing, quality, responsiveness, and delivery reliability. Serve as the primary internal liaison with the company's managed IT service provider, coordinating support requests, equipment deployments, software licensing, and troubleshooting. Resolve invoice discrepancies. Maintain current vendor pricing.
Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred. 3+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in construction or heavy civil. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
