Job Description
We are looking for a skilled Sr. Buyer to join our team in Maryland in a contract capacity with the potential for a permanent role. In this role, you will take ownership of purchasing activities that keep manufacturing and program timelines on track, while working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. This position is ideal for a procurement specialist who can balance cost, quality, and delivery objectives while operating with a high level of independence.
Responsibilities:
Drive purchasing activities for raw materials, parts, equipment, and outside services needed to support production and business commitments. Create and oversee purchase orders, confirming that order details, pricing, and supplier delivery dates align with operational needs and company guidelines. Lead supplier discussions to secure competitive costs, reliable delivery schedules, and favorable commercial terms. Track vendor performance and address issues involving shortages, delays, quality concerns, or invoice discrepancies before they impact operations. Partner with teams across engineering, operations, quality, and program management to align procurement plans with manufacturing schedules and project milestones. Maintain organized and accurate purchasing records, supplier information, and supporting documentation within company systems. Review demand trends, stock levels, and lead times to help maintain material availability without creating unnecessary inventory exposure. Assist with supplier selection, qualification, and onboarding efforts while contributing to continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives. Provide support for quotation requests, audit readiness, reporting needs, and broader supply chain improvement efforts as required. Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related discipline. Experience in buying, procurement, or purchasing within a manufacturing or production-focused environment. Demonstrated ability to negotiate with suppliers on price, lead time, and standard business terms. Working knowledge of procurement processes, purchase order management, and supplier performance follow-up. Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate demand, inventory, and sourcing options to support business objectives. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors. Experience maintaining accurate procurement records and supporting compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
