Job Description
Position Summary Hercules Custom Iron is seeking a Purchasing Coordinator to support purchasing activities for our custom metal fabrication and manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for sourcing materials, issuing and tracking purchase orders, coordinating with vendors, monitoring material availability, and helping ensure production teams have the materials and supplies needed to meet project schedules. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience , preferably in a manufacturing, metal fabrication, construction, or similar industrial environment. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective vendor communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Key Responsibilities Coordinate purchasing of raw materials, components, hardware, shop supplies, equipment, and outside services needed for fabrication and installation projects. Obtain and compare vendor quotes based on price, quality, availability, and lead time. Create, issue, and track purchase orders through delivery. Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, order status, and delivery schedules. Monitor open orders and resolve delays, backorders, shortages, damaged materials, and incorrect shipments. Coordinate purchasing needs with estimating, project management, fabrication, field operations, and accounting. Maintain accurate vendor, pricing, purchasing, and material records. Identify alternative suppliers when needed to address cost, availability, or scheduling concerns. Monitor material pricing and communicate significant cost changes. Work with Accounting to resolve purchase order and invoice discrepancies. Maintain strong supplier relationships and assist with pricing and terms negotiations. Identify opportunities to improve purchasing efficiency and control material costs. Perform other purchasing and operational support duties as assigned. Qualifications 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience. Experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, construction, steel distribution, or a related industry preferred. Experience managing purchase orders and vendor relationships. Familiarity with steel, metals, hardware, fabrication supplies, or construction materials preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Experience with ERP, purchasing, inventory, or job-costing systems preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant college degree is a plus.
