Position Summary Power Magnetics, Inc. is seeking an organized, dependable, and hands-on Buyer / Materials Coordinator to manage purchasing activities and support material flow throughout our manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for obtaining quotations, issuing purchase orders, following up with suppliers, expediting material, maintaining purchasing records, and helping ensure production has the materials needed to keep work moving. This is not strictly a desk-based purchasing position. The Buyer / Materials Coordinator will regularly work within our manufacturing areas to verify materials, check inventory, receive or move purchased items, organize supplies, and help resolve material shortages or discrepancies. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between office work and the manufacturing floor, managing multiple priorities, communicating with suppliers, and taking ownership of purchasing and material-related problems. What Your Day-to-Day Work Will Look Like You will manage purchasing requirements for a custom manufacturing operation while working closely with production, engineering, operations, receiving, and suppliers. On a typical day, you may spend the morning reviewing material requirements, requesting quotations, placing purchase orders, and following up with suppliers, then spend part of the afternoon in the shop verifying incoming material, checking inventory, locating components, organizing purchased items, or helping production resolve a material shortage.
- Request and evaluate supplier quotations for materials, components, outside services, and supplies.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders based on production and operational requirements.
- Review supplier acknowledgments and maintain accurate pricing, quantities, and delivery dates.
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up with suppliers regarding delivery status.
- Expedite critical or late material and communicate potential shortages before they affect production.
- Identify alternate suppliers or sources when materials are unavailable, delayed, or cost-prohibitive.
- Maintain accurate purchasing information and records within the company's ERP system.
- Coordinate with engineering and production when specifications, quantities, substitutions, or delivery requirements need clarification.
- Work directly with suppliers to resolve incorrect shipments, shortages, damaged material, pricing discrepancies, and other purchasing issues.
- Assist with freight, pickup, and delivery coordination when required.
- Maintain organized purchasing files, supplier information, quotations, and supporting documentation. Materials and Production Support Because we are a small manufacturing company, this position also has a hands-on material and shop-support component.
- Regularly enter manufacturing and storage areas to verify material availability and condition.
- Physically check quantities, part numbers, dimensions, or other material information when questions arise.
- Assist with receiving, moving, organizing, and staging purchased materials and supplies when needed.
- Help maintain organized material and stock areas.
- Work directly with production employees and supervisors to identify shortages and understand immediate material needs.
- Locate material within the facility rather than relying exclusively on ERP inventory records.
- Assist with packaging, staging, outside-processing coordination, or other material-related activities as needed.
- Support miscellaneous purchasing, material-handling, and operational needs that arise in a small manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain material availability in support of production schedules.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with existing suppliers.
- Identify and qualify potential new suppliers when needed.
- Compare supplier pricing, availability, lead times, freight, and purchasing terms.

- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information.
- Communicate material shortages, delays, and supplier issues to operations and production.
- Coordinate purchasing priorities as production requirements change.
- Review purchasing and receiving discrepancies and assist in resolving invoice-related issues.
- Work collaboratively with operations, engineering, production, accounting, shipping, and receiving.
- Assist with inventory verification and material organization.
- Perform other purchasing and material-support activities as required. Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, materials, supply chain, industrial distribution, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- Manufacturing or industrial experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working with purchase orders, supplier quotations, and order follow-up.
- Comfortable working with ERP or MRP systems and learning new business software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and general computer applications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing production requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating directly with suppliers by both phone and email.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of open issues through completion.
- Comfortable regularly working in an active manufacturing environment and assisting with physical material handling when needed.
- Ability to read and understand part numbers, bills of material, specifications, drawings, and other basic technical documentation is preferred.
What Makes This Role Rewarding This position offers significantly more variety and ownership than a traditional purchasing desk job. You will manage approximately $3 million to $4 million in annual purchasing and work directly with suppliers, production, engineering, and company leadership. The materials you purchase become part of custom transformers and reactors designed and manufactured at our Trenton facility.
