Mason Steel and Supply (Walton Hills, OH) is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to manage all steel purchasing for the company. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining reliable material availability, controlling costs and developing strong relationships with steel mills, service centers and other suppliers. The ideal candidate understands the steel industry, follows market pricing and can anticipate purchasing needs based on production schedules, inventory levels and upcoming projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable purchasing professional who enjoys taking ownership of the procurement process and directly contributing to a company's profitability and success.

What You'll Do:

• Manage all steel purchasing activities for the company.
• Purchase steel plate, sheet, structural steel and other materials based on operational and project needs.
• Monitor steel market conditions, pricing trends, availability and lead times.
• Request and evaluate supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and favorable terms.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, freight costs and purchasing agreements with vendors.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel mills, service centers and other suppliers.
• Coordinate with operations, estimating, project management and production teams to forecast material requirements.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess or obsolete material.
• Track open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure accurate and timely deliveries.
• Resolve material shortages, quality concerns, pricing discrepancies and delivery issues.
• Review purchasing data and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
• Ensure purchase orders, pricing information and vendor records are complete and accurate.
• Evaluate supplier performance based on cost, quality, service and delivery.
• Support inventory counts, material reconciliation and purchasing reports as needed.

What You'll Need:

• Prior purchasing or procurement experience. Steel, metals, manufacturing or construction industry experience a bonus.
• Strong knowledge of steel products, specifications, grades, pricing and supply channels.
• Established relationships within the steel industry are highly preferred.
• Proven experience negotiating with vendors and managing supplier relationships.
• Ability to understand production schedules, inventory needs and material requirements.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple purchasing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and purchasing, inventory or ERP systems.
