The ideal candidate will have hands-on purchasing experience with pipe, fittings, structural steel, and plate and understand the importance of pricing, availability, lead times, and supplier relationships in a manufacturing environment. This position will work directly with vendors and internal operations to ensure materials are purchased accurately, competitively, and on time. Responsibilities Purchase pipe, fittings, structural steel, plate, and other materials required for manufacturing and fabrication. Request and compare vendor quotes based on price, availability, quality, and lead time. Negotiate pricing and purchasing terms with suppliers. Create and manage purchase orders and follow orders through delivery. Maintain strong relationships with existing vendors while identifying additional suppliers when needed. Monitor material requirements and help prevent shortages that could impact production. Coordinate with operations and production regarding material needs and priorities. Resolve pricing, delivery, quantity, and material discrepancies with vendors. Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records. Qualifications Previous purchasing or buying experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, steel, pipe, or industrial environment. Experience purchasing pipe, fittings, structural steel, and/or plate strongly preferred. Strong vendor negotiation and supplier-management skills. Ability to compare pricing, lead times, and material availability. Strong organizational and communication skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Purchasing/ERP system experience is preferred.
