Position Summary The Purchasing Clerk is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, and services required to support production, inventory, and customer demand. This position works closely with vendors, production, inventory control, engineering, customer service, and shipping to ensure materials are available when needed while maintaining cost-effective purchasing practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Create and manage purchase orders for production and stock requirements. Review Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and purchasing reports daily. Obtain and review vendor quotations for pricing, lead times, and availability. Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms with suppliers. Monitor open purchase orders and follow up on vendor confirmations. Update purchase order due dates and pricing based on vendor acknowledgments. Communicate vendor delays, shortages, and changes to appropriate departments. Maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP system. Review inventory levels and make recommendations for reorder points and safety stock. Resolve invoice discrepancies related to pricing, quantities, and freight charges. Assist with sourcing alternate suppliers when supply chain disruptions occur. Support cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations and process improvements. Participate in vendor performance reviews and supplier development activities. Work closely with Receiving to ensure proper receipt of purchased materials. Assist with inventory accuracy initiatives and cycle count investigations. Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Qualifications Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or related field preferred. 2+ years of purchasing, procurement, inventory, or manufacturing experience preferred. Skills & Abilities Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong negotiation and communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and ERP systems.
