About the Role The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for supporting the company's purchasing activities to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services. This role works closely with production, maintenance, warehouse, and administrative teams to purchase equipment spare parts, packaging materials, office supplies, and other operational needs while maintaining strong vendor relationships and ensuring compliance with company purchasing procedures. This is a hands-on role suited for someone who is honest, organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities 1. Purchasing & Procurement Purchase equipment spare parts, maintenance supplies, packaging materials, office supplies, and other operational items Process purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders in a timely manner Follow up on orders to ensure on-time delivery and resolve supply issues when necessary Coordinate with internal departments to understand purchasing requirements and priorities 2. Vendor Management Source and evaluate new suppliers to improve cost, quality, and service Maintain strong relationships with existing vendors and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and service terms Request quotations, compare pricing, and recommend cost-effective purchasing decisions Monitor supplier performance and address quality or delivery concerns 3. Cost Control & Purchasing Administration Support cost reduction initiatives through price comparison, negotiation, and supplier evaluation Maintain accurate purchasing records, quotations, contracts, and vendor documentation Monitor purchasing expenses and assist with budget control Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and approval procedures 4. Process Improvement & Inventory Support Develop, maintain, and continuously improve purchasing SOPs and related documentation Support inventory planning by coordinating with warehouse and maintenance teams to maintain appropriate stock levels for critical spare parts and operational materials Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency, standardize purchasing processes, and reduce purchasing costs Assist with special purchasing and operational projects as assigned Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or manufacturing operations Experience purchasing industrial equipment parts, maintenance supplies, or manufacturing materials is preferred Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Strong analytical skills with attention to cost control and detail Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel Work Environment Full-time, on-site position located in Lancaster County, South Carolina Manufacturing environment with close interaction across production, maintenance, warehouse, and office teams Benefits 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance
