Senior Buyer Paget Equipment | Marshfield, WI Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week | Monday-Friday | On-Site Paget Equipment is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join our manufacturing team in Marshfield, Wisconsin. This is an important position within our manufacturing operation. The Senior Buyer will take ownership of purchasing activities and work directly with Engineering, Production, Project Management, Receiving, Accounting, and suppliers to ensure materials are available when needed and projects remain on schedule. We are looking for an experienced buyer who can work independently, anticipate problems, negotiate effectively with suppliers, and take ownership of the purchasing process from initial material requirements through delivery. What You'll Do Manage day-to-day purchasing and procurement activities for manufacturing. Create, issue, and manage purchase orders from initial order through delivery. Purchase steel, stainless steel, plate, pipe, fittings, valves, welding consumables, and other industrial materials. Review engineering and production requirements to determine purchasing needs. Obtain and evaluate supplier quotes, pricing, availability, and lead times. Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, terms, and other purchasing conditions. Identify long-lead materials and coordinate early purchasing with Engineering and Project Management. Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up with suppliers. Anticipate potential material shortages or delivery problems and take corrective action before they affect production. Review purchase order acknowledgements and resolve discrepancies involving price, quantity, specifications, and delivery. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers. Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers when appropriate. Work with vendors to resolve quality issues, shortages, damaged shipments, and late deliveries. Evaluate supplier performance based on price, quality, delivery, and service. Monitor material requirements and inventory levels. Maintain accurate purchasing and vendor information in the company's ERP/MRP system. Work with Receiving and Accounting to resolve receiving and invoice discrepancies. Communicate purchasing status, material concerns, and potential production impacts to management and other departments. Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve lead times, and strengthen supplier performance. Help improve purchasing processes, procedures, and supplier relationships. Serve as a resource for less-experienced purchasing personnel when needed. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will have a proven history of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment . Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of purchasing, buying, procurement, or material-management experience. Strong manufacturing purchasing experience. Experience purchasing steel, stainless steel, plate, pipe, fittings, valves, welding consumables, or other industrial materials . Experience with ASME pressure vessels or pressure-vessel manufacturing . Ability to understand engineering drawings, material specifications, and manufacturing requirements. Experience with an ERP/MRP system . Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Experience negotiating supplier pricing, terms, and delivery requirements. Experience developing and maintaining supplier relationships. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. ASME/pressure-vessel experience is preferred but not required. Strong candidates with substantial manufacturing purchasing experience are encouraged to apply. What Success Looks Like The successful Senior Buyer will be more than someone who places purchase orders. You will be expected to anticipate purchasing requirements, understand production needs, identify long-lead materials, maintain supplier accountability, and address problems before they affect our customers or production schedule. You should be comfortable making decisions independently while knowing when an issue needs to be brought to Engineering, Production, Project Management, or management. The ideal candidate takes ownership of their work and understands that purchasing decisions affect cost, quality, delivery, production efficiency, and ultimately customer satisfaction.
