Job Summary:
This position is for a detail-oriented and organized individual to support procurement operations in a fast-paced metal manufacturing environment. The Buyer is responsible for processing purchase orders, maintaining supplier records, tracking inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery of raw materials, tooling, and production supplies. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, experience working with vendors, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting production schedules.
Job Duties Responsibilities:
Create, process, and track purchase orders for raw materials, metal components, shop supplies, and equipment. Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, delivery schedules, and order status. Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier files, and inventory data in ERP or purchasing systems. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment to avoid production delays. Verify order accuracy, invoices, packing slips, and receiving documentation. Assist with sourcing new suppliers and obtaining competitive quotes. Coordinate with production, warehouse, and accounting departments regarding purchasing needs and delivery timelines. Resolve discrepancies involving shipments, damaged materials, or invoice issues. Support cost-control initiatives and maintain purchasing compliance procedures. Prepare reports related to purchasing activity, inventory usage, and supplier performance. Perform other duties as required by management.
Skills Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred; associate degree in business, supply chain, or related field a plus. 1-3 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory, or administrative experience, preferably in manufacturing or metal fabrication. Familiarity with metal manufacturing materials such as steel, aluminum, stainless steel, or industrial supplies preferred. Experience using ERP, MRP, or inventory management software. Strong organizational, math, and data-entry skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a production environment.
Additional Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, or welding operations. Understanding of purchase order procedures and supplier negotiations.
